Content: Here is chapter 1 of a concept I'm working on. Can't seem to get it out of my head, so I'm writing it out.

Mark coughed as he came through the door. He was so tired. “Melli, I’m *cough* home.”

“You look terrible,” Melli said. “Are you okay?”

“No,” Mark said. *Cough* “I feel terrible. Can you take me to Urgent Care before they close?”

“You know I can’t,” Melli said. “I have the week-long women’s retreat. I’m heading to the airport in half an hour.”

“Right,” Mark said. “The weekend retreat. I forgot that you were leaving today. What about the kids?”

“They’re already at Frank’s,” Melli said. “You’ll have the house all to yourself while I’m gone.” She walked over and pulled a bag off the top shelf.

“It’s not going to be a fun weekend with this cold I’ve got,” Mark said. “I think I have a fever.”

“Don’t worry,” Melli said. “I have a solution. It’s time to reintroduce you to Doctor Diaper.”

“You can’t be serious,” Mark said. *cough* “That’s just for the kids.”

“It’ll work just fine for you, too,” Melli replied. “Go lay on the bed.”

Mark walked into the bedroom and lay down. He was running out of energy quickly. “I didn’t know you still had that bag. Our youngest hasn’t been in diapers for eighteen months.”

“That’s not quite true,” Melli said. “He was diapered last weekend. The DB2000 diagnosed and treated his cold. Probably the same cold you caught from him.”

“But the diapers won’t fit me,” Mark said. *cough* “I’m too big.”

“Now, now,” Melli said as she removed his shoes. “This bag is adaptive. It’s already scanned you, making a diaper just your size, my adult-sized baby.”

*Adult Baby mode activated,* the diaper bag said.

“Adult baby mode?” Mark asked. “Must be to make a diaper big enough. So I’ll just have to wear it until I’m better, right?”

Melli nodded while she took off his pants. “It should be fun for you. Just like the weekends we used to have before the kids came along.”

“Except you won’t be here,” Mark said. “And I’ll be diapered.”

“Well, that part isn’t new,” Melli replied as she pulled off his shirt. “Don’t worry, I’ll be your ‘mommy’ until you’re all better.”

*Mommy designated,* the bag said.

“Remind me how this bag works,” Mark said.

Melli pulled off his underwear and placed the large diaper under him. “If the diaper gets too full in the middle of the night, the bag will reach out and change you. I’ve never explored the full extent of its abilities, but I know it has cured every illness our children have caught. So I know it can do the same for you.” She pulled the diaper up between his legs and secured it with the hook and loop flaps. “Huh. The bag embroidered a dragon on the front of your diaper. That’s new.”

“This feels thick enough to be a *cough* cloth diaper,” Mark said.

“It is,” Melli said. “But don’t worry, it won’t leak. It has a protective coating. And if the bag feels it necessary, it can give you plastic pants.”

*Diagnosis: H5N1, Bird Flu. Treatment plan: Bed rest, liquids, antibiotics. Healing time: 18 hours.*

“Great,” Mark said. “I’ve got bird flu.”

“And you’ll be fine by tomorrow morning,” Melli said. “Now it’s time for me to go.” She gave him a quick kiss. “I love you.”

“I love *cough* you, too,” Mark said. He crawled under the blankets. He heard the door shut as Melli left for the weekend. “What did she mean about diapered weekends? I haven’t worn diapers since I was a kid. Of course, she’s talking about the part of our marriage when I had memory problems.” He drifted off to sleep.

*Uploading information. Additional testing required. Insufficient capabilities. Upgrade requested.*

Mark woke the following day, feeling a little groggy but much better. He glanced at the clock. It said 12:42 p.m. “Did I really sleep for eighteen hours?”

*Negative,* the bag replied. *Total sleep time: 10 hours. Bird Flu recovery complete.*

“Great.” Mark walked into the bathroom, hoping to take the diaper off and take a long shower. But when he saw his own reflection, he screamed. “What did you do to me?”

He was wearing footed pajamas with mittens and a hood. But the worst part was there was no zipper. “Get me out of this costume!”

*Negative,* the bag replied. *Adult Baby protocol has been engaged. Your next diaper change is not scheduled until at least 10 p.m. Diaper must be full to be changed.*

“Scheduled?” Mark repeated. “I want to get out of this diaper now and shower.”

*Negative,* the bag replied. *Diaper time can only be ended by ‘Mommy’*

“What!” Mark shouted. “You want me to wear this one diaper for more than 24 hours, and now you tell me I can’t get the diaper off till Millie gets home?”

*Your last diaper change was at 2 a.m.,* the bag said. *Everything is as you requested, within the Adult Baby parameters.*

“Ugh!” Mark shouted. He walked to his computer, noticing that this diaper was much thicker than the one Mellie had put on him. Plus, it was already wet. He sat on the wet diaper in front of the computer and found he could at least remove the mittens.

He did a search for Adult Baby Protocol. He only found two entries. The first was a story he found intriguing, if weird. It spoke to parts of himself he’d been ignoring. But the other was part of the manual for the DB2000.

When Adult Baby Protocol is engaged, the wearer cannot remove the diaper. Only the designated Mommy will be allowed to remove the diaper. When the Mommy is away, the DB2000 will act as a Nanny, providing the selected foods, drinks, and clothing.

There are four basic settings, but the menu is fully customizable.

LevelClothing (colors and prints available)Food/drink1 InfantOnesies and sleepers only.Milk in a bottle2 ToddlerLevel 1 plus T-shirts and shortsLiquid foods3 LittlesKid-style clothing with snappiesLittle Bites4 AdultAll clothing options availableFull menu
If the Mommy sets the menu, the Adult Baby will be unable to change it. The Adult Baby cannot remove the diapers regardless of the setting level. Only the designated Mommy can transfer out of Adult Baby Protocol.

Mark jumped up and marched back to the DB2000. “What are the protocol settings?”

*Setting 1. Full infant treatment,* the bag said.

“And who set that protocol?” Mark asked.

*Infant setting selected at 1:55 a.m. by Donald.*

“Who is Donald?” Mark asked.

*You are a physical and voice match for Donald.*

“But my name is Mark.”

*Setting updated. User: Mark.*

“Change settings to level 4,” Mark said. “Take off this footed sleeper.”

*Settings updated.* Long tendrils grew slowly out of the bag. They reached behind Mark and opened the zipper back there.

“So there is a zipper,” Mark said.

The tendrils carefully removed the sleeper, and Mark stepped out of it. Mark looked down at the very thick diaper with another dragon on the front. It was easily three times bigger than the first diaper.

“Why was I changed into such a thick diaper?” Mark asked.

*Diaper thickness settings were selected before the early morning diaper change,* the bag said as it placed one of his own T-shirts on him.

Mark knew none of his pants would fit over this massive bulk, so he was hardly surprised when a pair of overalls emerged from the bag. He didn’t object as the tendrils put the overalls on him. He didn’t have time to try to remove the diaper.

“Please return the diaper thickness to the normal level,” Mark said.

*Passcode, please.*

“Passcode?” Mark asked.

*Diaper thickness protocol was set with a passcode. It cannot be changed without it.*

“What! I don’t know the passcode. Who set it?” Mark demanded.

*You did. 1:55 a.m. this morning.*

“I wasn’t awake at 1:55 this morning,” Mark quipped back. “Listen to me, arguing with a machine.”

*Records show you slept from 5:35 p.m. to 1:12 a.m. and again from 10:12 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.*

“It’s happening again,” Mark said. “I thought I was over this.”

But there wasn’t anyone there to answer him. He decided to make the best of his situation. Right now, he was hungry. “Please prepare a large rib-eye steak, medium-rare, with mashed potatoes, beef gravy, and mixed vegetables.”

*Request received.* The bag walked on the tendrils into the kitchen.

Mark waddled over to the couch and found a movie to watch. It wasn’t long before his food arrived, along with a TV tray. He enjoyed the meal and the action movie.

Several hours passed before the phone rang. Millie’s face was on the screen.

“Hi, honey! How is your weekend getaway?” Mark asked.

“Weekend?” Milli repeated. “No, I told you it is a week-long retreat. We discussed the details for the last six months. You wanted some time to let out your inner child.”

“Well, that’s certainly the case,” Mark said. “I woke up in a teddy-bear-footed sleeper with the zipper on the back.”

“Oh, you pulled it out of the closet,” Milli said. “I haven’t seen that outfit for about five years.”

“What are you talking about?” Mark asked. “I thought the bag made it.”

Milli laughed. “It used to be your favorite Halloween costume. And are you telling me you don’t remember the cuddly weekends when you wore it around the house before the kids got old enough to notice?”

“Honey, I love you, but I really don’t know what you’re talking about,” Mark said.

“Hrm,” Millie replied. “Sounds like your memory problems are returning.”

“It’s worse than that,” Mark replied. “The computer thinks I woke up in the middle of the night and set the diaper thickness to triple thick. I can’t change it back, but you can.”

“So you’re in a super thick diaper and can’t get out of it?” Milli asked. “That’s rich. Wish I was there.”

“Can you change the settings or not?” Mark asked.

“Why can’t you just take the diaper off?” Milli asked.

“You accidentally activated the Adult Baby Protocol,” Mark explained. “Only you can take off the diaper and deactivate the protocol.”

“So you’re stuck in diapers until I return, a week from Monday,” Milli said.

“I have work next week!” Mark shouted. “What am I supposed to do on Monday?”

“You requested to work from home, remember?” Milli said. “What was the response you got from your boss?”

The memory came rushing back. “If it works out, you’ll be able to work from home any time you want,” Mark recalled.

Milli sighed. “I can adjust the clothing and food levels, but the diaper thickness setting requires a passcode. You don’t remember what you said?”

“I don’t remember being awake!” Mark shouted back.

“Calm down,” Milli said. “Be glad you only missed a few hours. You used to complain about missing weekends, and one time a whole month. Come to think of it, those were usually the weekends you spent diapered in one of your sleepers.”

“I still don’t remember ever wearing a diaper in front of you,” Mark said. “Are you playing a prank on me?”

“You still have a stash of diapers in your bottom drawer,” Milli said. “Check if you don’t believe me. Honey, I love every part of you. Even the parts you don’t remember. I’ll check in with you tomorrow. I love you.”

“I love you, too,” Mark said a moment before she hung up. He stood up. “I have to see this.” He waddled into the bedroom and checked the bottom drawer of his dresser. He thought there were only extra blankets in there. Instead, he found several large disposable adult diapers with various childish patterns and two more sleepers. A green dragon and a fluffy blue outfit. He couldn’t tell what the blue monster was supposed to be. “These memory problems are worse than I thought.”

Content: TwoMarc turned on another action movie and tried to relax. His stomach started to churn. Not because he was hungry but because he hadn’t pooped since the previous morning. It was time to end this charade.

“Hey, Doctor Diaper, I need to use the toilet,” Marc said.

*Negative. Only the designated Mommy can permit toilet breaks.*

“But I have to poop!” Marc shouted.

*Go ahead.*

“What! In my diaper?”

There was no response.

Marc took the bag and put it on the shelf in the closet. Then he took off the overalls and the T-shirt. He tried to remove the diaper, but the flaps wouldn’t budge. It was like the diaper was sewn shut. He tried to pull it off, but it was too tight.

Frustrated, he grabbed a pair of scissors and tried to cut through the cloth, but it was too thick. He tried harder, and the blade slipped, slicing into his side and drawing a little blood. “Ow!”

The closet door burst open, and the diaper bag walked toward him on the tentacles. *Injury detected. Self-harm is not permitted. Security measures engaged.*

“Security measures?” Marc repeated. “It was an accident. I was trying to get the diaper off.”

*Removing the diaper is not permitted. Lay down and do not resist.*

Marc submitted, lying down on the couch. He expected the bag to remove the diaper, but instead, it pulled down that section and treated the wound. It cleaned the blood, added ointment, and then a band-aid.

*All sharp objects will be locked away. Removing clothing will not be permitted. Designated Mommy will be contacted.*

Marc sighed. “You don’t have to call Mellie. I told you, it was an accident. It won’t happen again.”

Marc’s phone rang.

“Hi, Mellie,” Marc said.

“Marc, are you okay?” Mellie asked.

“Yes,” Marc said. “I tried to cut the diaper off and accidentally cut myself.”

“Do you really hate diapers that much?” Mellie asked. “I thought you enjoyed wearing a diaper.”

Marc sighed. “No, I don’t. Especially when I don’t get toilet breaks. You must be thinking of someone else.”

“I guess I am,” Mellie said. “I’m going to set up an appointment with your therapist. It’s time we told you everything.”

“What does that mean?” Marc demanded. “What have you been hiding from me?”

“You’ve been hiding this from yourself,” Mellie said. “Look, I have to get back to class. Just try to relax. There is a part of you who enjoys diapers. Try to find that part inside yourself and let it out. I’ll see you when I get back. I love you all.” She hung up.

Marc sighed as the bag put a onesie on him. It had a zipper on the back he couldn’t reach, and he heard the click of a lock. “Security measures,” Marc said to himself. He curled up in a ball and tried not to poop.

Mellie’s words came back to him. “There is a part of me that enjoys diapers,” Marc said. “I don’t know what that means.”

The next wave of pressure was too much, and he filled his diaper with poop.

He started to cry. “Will you change me now?”

*Your next diaper change is scheduled after 10 p.m. That’s 3 hours, 42 minutes from now.*

“You want me to sit in a filthy diaper for more than three hours?” Marc said.

*As you requested.*

Marc just cried all the more. The world around him went dark as he blacked out.

Donald sat up and felt the squishy mess on his butt. “Doctor Diaper, what time is it?”

*6:21 p.m. As I told you three minutes ago, your next diaper change isn’t until at least 10 p.m.*

“You mean you told Marc. I’m Donald.”

*Analyzing. Multiple voice patterns from the same body. More input required.*

Donald sighed. “Marc doesn’t remember we have multiple personalities. Check your files under Dissociative Identity Disorder.”

*Downloading information.*

“While you do that, let’s see what Marc has been up to in my absence.” Donald looked at his clothes. “I’m in a onesie with no snaps.” He reached behind his neck and felt a small padlock. “Did Marc try to take the diaper off?”

*Affirmative. Information retrieved. Dissociative Identity Disorder is an often disputed diagnosis resulting from a traumatic past. Key indicators include lost time, blackouts, and panic attacks. Some patients have reported that each personality speaks with a different tone and enjoys different things. Diagnosis confirmed. Voice prints for Marc, Donald, and Sally have been identified.*

“You’ve already talked to Sally?” Donald asked. “I didn’t realize that.”

*Sally’s voice pattern was recognized from 3 a.m. to 10 a.m.*

“That figures,” Donald said. “So, what’s for dinner? Am I restricted to bottled milk, or is the full menu available?”

*Food and drink are set to level 4. Clothing set to level 1 with security measures.*

“Great! I’d love a pizza, but I can’t answer the door dressed like this,” Donald said. He reached down and rubbed the thick diaper to emphasize the point. The diaper was wet, messy, and starting to get heavy. “And I can’t wait till 10 p.m. to order a pizza.”

*No contact delivery options are available. Please define pizza parameters.*

“I want three large pizzas, enough to last several days, and give everyone inside the toppings they want,” Donald said. “Pepperoni and sausage for Sally, Harold, and Frank. Pineapple, Canadian bacon, and American bacon for Arthur, Benny, and myself, and one with, ugh, mushrooms, green peppers, and olives for Nancy and Milo.”

*Parameters received. Placing order. You didn’t order anything for Marc.*

“I don’t think he’ll be back out for a while. Besides, he prefers steak. Wait!” Donald shouted. “Don’t forget the root beer, breadsticks, and a cookie.”

*Root beer is already in the fridge. Financial settings require I make cookies.*

“That’s good enough for me,” Donald said. He grabbed the remote, switched to Paramount Plus, and selected Paw Patrol. “Oh good, no one else has been watching my favorite show. I hate having to find my place again.”

After the second episode of Paw Patrol, the doorbell rang. “Pizza delivery! I’ll just leave it here on the porch. Enjoy!”

Donald checked through the peephole to ensure the delivery guy was gone before turning off the porch light and opening the door to grab the five boxes. He shut the door and locked it before putting the boxes on the table and inspecting them.

All three pizzas were exactly as he requested, with two boxes of crazy bread. He grabbed the root beer from the fridge and a cup, then sat down at the table to enjoy the feast. The squishiness beneath him didn’t bother him at all.

“Hey, everyone! Pizza’s here!” Donald said aloud. “Sorry about the squishies. That was Marc.” He grabbed a piece of the Hawaiian style with extra bacon and enjoyed it thoroughly. Right on schedule, he felt Sally take over as his mind retreated into the background.

Sally grabbed a slice of pepperoni and sausage and started to eat. “Da pizza iz yummy, Donald. Me like da squishies. Dey not smell too bad.” She reached down and rubbed the diaper. “Oh. Big big diapie.” She smiled and finished her slice so that Milo could come forward.

Milo sighed. “Look, I get why you littles like wearing diapers, but do you have to make them so big?” Feeling a little extra weight, he reached behind his neck and felt the padlock. “Locked in? Really? Who’s idea was that? And why do you always watch Paw Patrol? You’ve seen it a dozen times!” He grabbed the remote and switched to a documentary while enjoying the vegetarian pizza slice.

By the time Nancy, Harold, and Benny each took a turn eating, the body’s stomach was quite full. Donald came back out and switched the show back to Paw Patrol. He was too full to enjoy more than one cookie.

With all the extra food, he had to poop again, and by the time he finished, it was barely 8 p.m. “Hey, Doctor Diaper, can I take a shower before I get changed?”

*Showering is essential for skin health.*

“Great!” Donald said.

When the next episode ended, Donald asked, “Can you take the onesie off me so I can shower?”

*Voiceprint for Donald confirmed.* The bag unlocked and unzipped the onesie. *One hour is permitted for bathing.*

Donald shrugged off the onesie and hopped into the shower. The hot water against his skin was so relaxing. As the water washed over him, he felt Marc waking up. “Not now, Marc!” But he couldn’t stop it. Marc pushed Donald into the background.

Marc sighed as the warm water calmed him. For a couple minutes, he didn’t care how he got from the couch to the shower. But then he looked down and saw he was still wearing a diaper. And from the feel and the smell, it was still messy.

“Who takes a shower in a messy diaper?” Marc asked. He sighed. “Probably the same person who orders adult diapers and footed sleepers. Hey, Doctor Diaper! How long until the next diaper change?”

The bag came into the bathroom. *Voiceprint for Marc identified. Bathing is permitted under observation. Next diaper change permitted in thirty minutes.*

Marc sighed. “Thirty minutes.”

The diaper was filling with water and getting quite heavy.

“What is the capacity of this diaper, anyway?” Marc asked.

*Triple-thick diaper is rated to hold up to 25,000 milliliters.*

“Twenty-five liters!” Marc exclaimed. He did some quick math in his head. The diaper kept getting heavier. “You mean this diaper can weigh more than fifty pounds?”

Marc’s foot slipped, and the weight of the diaper brought him down hard. Thankfully, he landed on the thick diaper, which also meant he landed on the squishies.

“Yuck!” Marc exclaimed. “It feels like I pooped twice as much as I remembered.”

The tentacles reached through the curtain and shut the shower off. *Fall precautions initiated. Bathing will continue under direct supervision.*

“What in the world does that mean?” Marc asked.

Doctor Diaper turned Marc face down in a kneeling position, removed the diaper, and then cleaned up the squishies. Then it turned Marc back over, plugged the drain, and turned the water back up, filling the tub. It added bubble bath and toys. *Twenty-five minutes of bathing remains.*

Marc sighed. “Why is it that you go into over-protective panic mode every time I slip?”

*When the designated Mommy is not present, protocols default to the worst-case scenario.*

“Of course,” Marc said. He picked up the rubber duck and squeezed it. He felt so infantile. This robot kept taking away his autonomy because of minor accidents.

To make matters worse, Doctor Diaper picked up a sponge and cleaned Marc’s back.

Marc felt his attitude shift. He started to enjoy the bath. That’s when something pulled him away from his body. He watched from a distance as someone took over his body and played in the tub like a two-year-old.

*Voice print Sally recognized. Protocols adjusted.*

Sally? Marc thought to himself. I’m watching a little girl take over my body?

Sally played in the bath as Doctor Diaper scrubbed and cleaned her body, put shampoo in her hair, and rinsed it clean. Then the robot pulled Salley out of the bath, dried her off, and put another super thick diaper on her. It pulled out a pink onesie, again with a zipper and lock in the back. There was also frilly lace on the bottom.

“Pwetty dwess,” Sally said. “Tanx, Doctir Diapie.”

*You are welcome, Sally. The designated Mommy is calling.*

“Mommy?” Sally asked. “Is you der?”

“Sally? Is that you?” Mellie asked.

Marc wasn’t sure what was worse. That Sally was talking on the phone or that Mellie actually knew the toddler’s name.

“Yes, Mommy,” Sally said. “Me had baf time.”

“You did?” Mellie said. “Is Marc there? Or Donald?”

“Donald go night-night,” Sally said. “Marc watching.”

“He is?” Mellie asked. “That’s unusual. Can you let me talk to him?”

“Okay,” Sally said. “Night-night.”

Marc felt himself being pulled back into his body. He became acutely aware of the thickness of the diaper. If anything, it was thicker than last time. “Mellie, I’m here.”

“How long have you been aware?” Mellie asked.

“I watched Sally take a bath for over twenty minutes and then get diapered,” Marc said. “I know I’ve lost more than half the time you’ve been gone.”

“It sounds like you have a few questions,” Mellie said.

“So many,” Marc said. “Where do I start?”

“Oh, Honey, I wish I was there to walk you through this,” Mellie said. “I’ve known for ten years that you’ve been suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder. I’ve been waiting for you to realize it, but the therapist said not to force it on you.”

“How have I been surviving with so many people inside me all this time?” Marc asked.

“It hasn’t been easy,” Mellie said. “More than once, I wanted you to go on Disability. But you were functioning well enough that the therapist said not to.”

“Don’t worry about it, Mellie,” Marc said. “We’ll talk about it when you get home. I’ve got an interesting week alone with ourself. It makes things a little harder that Doctor Diaper is treating me like an accident-prone infant. I just hope he lets me dress in business attire on Monday.”

“You’re taking this awfully well,” Mellie said.

“Actually, I’m trying not to scream,” Marc said. “But at least now I have a reason for all the memory lapses. I’ll talk to you again tomorrow night. I love you.”

“I love all of you,” Mellie said.

Marc finally understood what she meant by that. “I wonder how many of me there are.”

*Seven separate voice patterns have been recorded and logged. Donald identified a total of ten identities, including you.*

“Ten,” Marc said. “Maybe tomorrow I can figure out how to talk to all of them.”

He didn’t complain when Doctor Diaper put the blue fuzzy sleeper on him and tucked him into bed with a bottle.

Content: ThreeMarc woke on Sunday morning with an empty bottle in his hand. At least, he hoped it was Sunday. He still wore the blue fluffy sleeper, and of course, he was still wearing a very thick diaper, which was slightly wet.

He sat up and found his phone. Yep, this was Sunday morning.

Marc got out of bed, headed to the living room, and started stretching. He was very aware of the thick diaper as he tried to touch his toes.

“Hey, Doctor Diaper, can you take this sleeper off me now?” Marc requested.

*Voiceprint Marc recognized. Sleeper removal approved.* The tentacles unlocked and unzipped the sleeper, then pulled it off.

Marc looked down and realized he was still in the pink onesie with frilly ruffles on the butt. He reached around and touched the ruffles. He hoped no one saw him like this.

“I wuv ruffles!” Sally said as she pushed her way forward.

Marc sighed as he watched from inside. He had no control and didn’t know how to get it back.

“Is it bwekfest time?” Sally asked.

*Voiceprint Sally identified. Yes, Sally. It is time for breakfast.*

“I want waffles!” Sally shouted.

*Waffles acknowledged. Here is your bottle. Feel free to color while you wait.* The tentacles handed Sally a large milk bottle and set paper and crayons on the table.

Sally grabbed the bottle and sucked down several gulps before picking up a crayon.

That milk tastes odd, Marc thought. I don’t think it’s cow’s milk.

Sally drew a picture of a house with one of the windows blacked out and a little girl playing in the yard. “Awl done!”

*Waffles are ready.* Doctor Diaper took a picture of the drawing and put down a plate of waffles already cut up with syrup.

“Yummy!” Sally dove in and finished the entire plate and the milk bottle. She got syrup on her face, hands, and the front of the onesie.

Doctor Diaper cleaned Sally’s face and hands, then removed the onesie.

As soon as the onesie was off, Marc was back in control. “Thank you. Can I sit in just a diaper for a while?”

*Voiceprint Marc identified. Negative. Marc attempted to remove the diaper. Locking onesie is required.*

“Fine,” Marc said. He didn’t object further or fight against being put into a white onesie.

The tentacles zipped it up in the back and clicked the lock into place.

Marc went back to stretching, which was more manageable without the sleeper. “Tell me this. I need to wear a business casual outfit tomorrow to work from home. How am I supposed to do that when none of my pants will fit over these thick diapers?”

*Computing.*

Marc smirked. That one wasn’t so easy to answer.

*Zoom calls are only viewed from the mid-chest upward. You can wear a business shirt over the onesie.*

Marc balled up his fists, then slowly relaxed them. There was another way to tackle this. “How do I talk to Donald?”

*Research required. Please stand by.*

Marc hopped on the internet and searched for DB2000. Many people had high praise for the DB2000 and the DB3000. They all said the diaper bag guarantees a dry bed at night and cures all kinds of kids’ illnesses. But no one mentioned the DB series taking care of an adult. One mom said she left it at the foot of her child’s bed until he was twelve to prevent bedwetting. Her child would sometimes wake up in a wet diaper but not in a wet bed.

*Research complete. There are many therapeutic techniques for establishing communication between alters. The most successful method is to write your question on a piece of paper in one color and allow the other alter to respond in another color.*

“Fine,” Marc said. “I’ll give it a try.” He went back to the kitchen table and sat down.

Doctor Diaper provided the paper and twelve colored pencils.

Marc picked up the black pencil and wrote, Donald, why did you force everyone to wear such a thick diaper?

Marc blinked, and there was a response on the paper. “Wow. That felt weird.” He looked down at the response. Actually, there was more than one.

Marc read the words written in red pencil. Marc, Donald here. It is great to see that you finally realize you are not the only one in this body. Several of us far prefer a thick diaper to a thin one. The overwhelming consensus of those of us who share the body decided to choose a diaper thick enough to last all day. Since we are home alone for an entire week, we felt this was an excellent opportunity to feel what wearing a very thick diaper is like. It helps some of the smaller alters to come forward. Sally hasn’t been able to come forward in years. Please understand this isn’t all about you.

The next line was written in blue. Milo here. I also hate wearing diapers. I noticed that we are still locked in a onesie, and this diaper is thick enough to prevent certain distasteful activities. The thickness will make it more challenging to work, even from home. If a thinner diaper prevents certain alters from coming forward, that is a good argument for wearing a thinner diaper, at least during work hours.

The line in pink was hard to read, only partially because of the color. I lik big diapee. Me wanna ploy. Want mor mik.

Then, another line of red. Sally, I know you like the thick diapers and the milk bottles. Doctor Diaper has already been told to give you a bottle whenever you come forward.

Someone then wrote in purple. You are all stupid. The thick diapers aren’t going to keep that man away. He will still come and find a way through the diapers.

Donald replied in red. Nancy, that man is in jail. He won’t get out. We are safe. Please don’t scare the littles.

“How long was I out of it?” Marc asked. He didn’t expect an answer, but he got one anyway.

*The writing exercise lasted four hours.*

“Four hours gone in a single blink,” Marc said. “Surely it didn’t take four hours to write five lines.”

*Sally requested another bottle and then took a nap.*

Marc reached down and rubbed the diaper. It did feel heavier than before. He was glad that he wasn’t back in the pink onesie. “I wonder what man Nancy was talking about.”

*Unknown.*

Marc picked up the black pencil. Nancy, I have no idea what man you are talking about. Can you tell me what you are talking about?

Marc blinked again, and suddenly, he was sitting on the couch with The Boys playing on the TV. He turned off the show and went back to the paper. The rest of the paper was covered in purple pencil and the backside. Marc carefully read the whole thing twice.

When he was done, he realized his heart was pounding, and his breathing was shallow. This was hard to accept. There was no way he could believe it. Not without proof. “Doctor Diaper, who is my birth father?”

*Searching. There is no birth certificate for Marc Williams with your birthdate. Expanding search. Adoption papers found. Birth name, Marc Tanlin. Birth father, Victor Tanlin.*

“When was I adopted?” Marc asked.

*Mother Harriet Tanlin married Paul Williams on February 18th, 2000. Adoption papers were completed on March 12th, 2000.*

“I was nine years old?” Marc asked himself. “Why don’t I remember any of that?”

*DID often causes large parts of childhood to be repressed or lost. One purpose of the alters is to hide those memories from the core personality.*

“I don’t remember anything before my tenth birthday,” Marc said. “I thought everyone forgot their early years of life, but I don’t have a single memory before that magical birthday party.”

He glanced over at the clock and saw it was 5:32 p.m. “That day went by quickly. I think I need to lie down.” He headed to the bedroom but blacked out before he got there.

Donald stopped at the bedroom door. “Great job, Nancy. Marc wasn’t ready for all that information.”

Nancy stood up straight and scowled. “He asked. I answered.”

Donald sighed and sat down on the couch. “He just found out we exist. How much detail did you include?”

Nancy grabbed the remote and turned The Boys back on. “I told him everything. He needs to know. Now, leave me alone. I like this show. Hey, robot! Get me that veggie pizza and warm it up!”

*Voiceprint unknown. Context tells me you are Nancy.*

“That’s right, you crazy electronic nanny. I’m Nancy! Now get me the pizza!”

Doctor Diaper warmed up two slices of pizza and brought them to Nancy on the couch.

“I want the whole pizza!” Nancy shouted. “I’m going to be here for the rest of the night!”

*Understood.*

Nancy slowly ate the two slices, and the rest was ready by then. She enjoyed three episodes before she stood up. Her stomach churned, and she involuntarily bent over. The poop filled her diaper in several waves.

“Gross! Get this diaper off me!” Nancy screamed.

*The next diaper change is not permitted until 8 p.m.*

“You expect me to wear this poopy diaper for half an hour?” Nancy yelled back. She picked up the TV tray and threw it at the machine.

The tentacles easily caught the tray and set it down safely. *Rage protocol is in effect.* The tentacles reached out and grabbed Nancy’s arms and legs.

“Let go of me, you insane bag of bolts! I’ll rip you apart!” Nancy screamed.

Doctor Diaper removed the onesie and pulled out a straight jacket. Nancy resisted, screamed, and cursed. But she couldn’t stop the tentacles from putting the jacket on her. When it was finally secured in the back, the tentacles helped her sit on the couch.

“I will destroy you for this!” Nancy screamed. Her stomach churned again. With some difficulty, she was able to roll over, kneel in front of the couch, and push the rest of the poop out. When she finished, she was exhausted, disgusted, and a little scared. She’d never felt so helpless. She hated the feeling and felt herself retreating into the mind.

Marc found himself kneeling in front of the couch. He tried to push himself up, but his arms wouldn’t move. He looked down and saw a straight jacket. “What happened? Why am I in this jacket?”

*Voiceprint Marc verified. An alter attempted to dismantle the DB2000. Security measures were taken.*

Marc tried to stand but fell backward, landing on the thick diaper. The squishy mess spread farther, and Marc groaned. “I’m poopy again. How long before the next diaper change?”

*Diaper change is permitted in five minutes.*

“Any way I can shower before you put the new diaper on me?” Marc asked.

*Shower is listed as an unsafe activity. A supervised bath is permitted.*

Marc knew that bath time probably meant Sally coming back out. Still, he wanted to feel clean. The mess on his butt only increased this desire. “Fine. Let’s do bath time again.”

*Acknowledged.* The robot helped Marc stand up and escorted him to the tub. The tentacles turned on the water and added the bubble bath, then removed the straight jacket and the diaper. It cleaned Marc’s backside, then held his hands as he stepped into the warm water and sat down.

As soon as the bubbles touched Marc’s hands, he felt Sally push her way forward.

“Bubbles!” Sally squealed. “Me wuv bubbles!”

Content: FourDonald woke early on Monday morning dressed in the teddy bear sleeper, his favorite outfit. Without requesting a change, he reviewed everything written the previous day. Then he asked the others inside what happened after Nancy forced her way forward.

Nancy attacked Doctor Diaper, Milo said. The machine put her in a straight jacket until Marc came back.

“How did Marc react?” Donald asked.

He wasn’t out very long, Milo replied. It was maybe five minutes before Sally took over. Marc hasn’t been back.

“Thanks, Milo,” Donald said. “DB2000, I need to adjust the diaper parameters.”

*Voiceprint Donald verified. Passcode required.*

“F281736,” Donald replied.

*Passcode verified. Diaper parameters unlocked.*

“Marc was right,” Donald said. “This super thick diaper will only encourage interruption of work time. The body should wear a standard thickness daytime diaper from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on work days.”

*Standard thickness may require a diaper change during working hours.*

Donald pondered this. Would Marc rather have a thinner diaper and require getting changed? Or wear a slightly thicker diaper? “Start with a standard thickness diaper, but allow others to increase the thickness of the business hours diaper. At 5:30 p.m., return to the maximum thickness diaper.”

*New diaper protocol accepted.*

“Can I have some Hawaiian pizza?” Donald asked.

The tentacles brought two slices of Hawaiian pizza.

“Pizza for breakfast,” Donald said. “I love it.”

*Analysis complete. Work is not a recommended activity.*

“What do you mean?” Donald asked.

*Marc experienced a massive revelation yesterday. He will likely be unable to focus on work tasks.*

“Do you have the authority to approve disability leave?” Donald asked.

*No.*

“Then we have to let Marc try,” Donald said. He finished his breakfast and flipped on the TV. The morning news show was playing.

Governor Blankenship signed SB203 into law on Friday. As a result, several criminals serving life sentences were released from prison this morning after serving twenty years or more of their sentence. A crowd gathered at the jail to object to the release of Victor Tanlin, a convicted pedophile.

“No!” Donald shouted. “No! DB2000, contact Mommy. Tell her what happened!”

*Sending text to the designated Mommy.*

Frank saw his father’s face on the TV. The evil one was back. He was free. “I’ve got to get out of here! I’ve got to hide!” He ran out the front door and down the street.

*Voiceprint unknown. Aberrant behavior detected. Pursuit recommended.* Doctor Diaper used its tentacles to chase after Frank.

Frank ran down the sidewalk, looking for a good place to hide. He ducked into the alley and sat down behind a bush. Victor was back. He was sure Victor would find him again.

*Designated Baby located. You must return to the domicile.”

“No!” Frank shouted. “Go away!”

*Incoming phone call.*

“Hello? Marc? Donald? It’s Mellie. I just got the text. What’s going on?”

“He’s coming to get me,” Frank said. “I have to hide.”

“Marc, is that you?” Mellie asked.

“No. Frank.”

“DB2000, status report,” Mellie said.

*Crisis detected. Frank is hiding in an alley, still dressed in the teddy bear sleeper. Request permission to use force to return Frank to the safety of the house.*

“Approved,” Mellie said. “Take him home, keep him safe. I will send help.”

*Additional force approved.* Eight more tentacles came out of the bag, secured Frank’s arms and legs, and picked him up.

“Let go of me!” Frank shouted. “I have to get away!”

One more tentacle came out and put a large pacifier in Frank’s mouth, securing it with a strap behind his head.

Frank struggled and squirmed against the tentacles but couldn’t break free.

Doctor Diaper set him down on the bed and removed the sleeper, replacing it with a straight jacket.

Frank continued to fight and squirm but couldn’t free himself from the straight jacket. The pacifier was still in place, so he couldn’t even object.

There was a knock at the door, and then the door opened. “Hello? Marc Williams? Your wife called and asked us to check on you.”

Frank tried to scream through the pacifier.

The noise was enough that the three men came into the bedroom. “What’s going on here?”

*Force was required to return him to the house. The straight jacket is necessary to keep him here.*

“And the pacifier and diaper?” the man asked.

*Frank was causing a public display. Appropriate noise reduction measures were used. The diaper is part of the Adult Baby protocol enacted by the designated Mommy.*

“I think the nanny bot has a slight malfunction. Who is Frank? I thought we were here for Marc Williams.”

*Legal name, Marc Williams. Verified diagnosis, Dissociative Identity Disorder. Frank is an alter unseen before the current crisis began. Ten alters are known.*

“Okay. Imagine that, Joe. A diaper bag is doing our job for us.”

Joe shook his head. “I doubt this device has a medical degree, James. Take that pacifier out so we can talk to the human.”

James reached down and removed the pacifier. “I’ve never seen a pacifier this big.”

“Who are you?” Frank asked.

“I’m James. This is Joe and Jack. We are the Psychological Evaluation Team. We’re here to see if you need to be taken to a facility or left here.”

“You can take me somewhere safe?” Frank asked.

James nodded. “If we need to.”

“You have to get me out of here,” Frank said. He was speaking so quickly his words were right on top of each other. “The evil man is back. He’s going to get me. I have to hide. I have to get out of here. Please, take me somewhere safe.”

“What man?” Joe asked. “Who are you talking about.”

“The evil one,” Frank said. “The one who hurt us. He’s coming, and he’s going to hurt us again.”

“How old are you?” Joe asked.

“I’m seven,” Frank said.

“Can I talk to an adult?” Joe asked.

“Mommy isn’t here,” Frank said.

“Can I talk to Marc?” Joe tried again.

“Who is Marc?” Frank asked.

“Seems pretty clear to me,” Jack said. “We’ve got a child alter who isn’t aware of the main personality.”

“One more try,” Joe said. “Marc, if you can hear me, we need to talk to you, or we’re going to have to take you to the hospital.”

“The hospital!” Frank said. “Yes, take us to the hospital. It is safe there. Mommy said so.”

“Who is us?” Joe asked.

“Us. I’m Frank. Jill, Benjamin, Paul, and Lucy are here too.”

“How old are they?” Joe asked.

“Jill is 2, Ben is 3, Paul is 6 months old, and Lucy is twelve,” Frank said.

*Four additional alters logged.*

“That’s not helping,” Joe said. “Is there a way to turn this machine off?”

*Negative. Only the designated Mommy can terminate the Adult Baby protocol.*

Joe sighed. “Very well. We’ll have to take the diaper bag with us. Get the stretcher.”

“Should we remove the straight jacket?” Jack asked.

“No,” Joe said. “We don’t know how this started or who he is afraid of.”

*The news report this morning stated that his father, and primary abuser, was released from prison this morning.*

“Then we can’t risk letting him free,” Joe said. “We don’t know what alters might come out during the journey or what they will do to avoid the hospital.”

“Very well,” Jack said. He went to the vehicle and brought back the stretcher board.

The three of them shifted Frank on the stretcher and strapped him down.

“What the $*($ do you think you’re doing?” Nancy screamed. “You mother @#$% had better release me this #$%@ second, or I’ll give you all a new #$%$#!”

“Where’s that pacifier when you need it?” Joe asked.

*Pacifier is available.*

“Don’t you dare!” Nancy screamed. She tried to kick, but her legs were secured.

Doctor Diaper pulled out the large pacifier and secured it in Nancy’s mouth with the strap.

“Are we allowed to gag our patients?” Jack asked.

“We didn’t gag him,” Joe said. “That talking diaper bag did.”

“Did we have to bring that along?” Jack asked.

“Maybe you didn’t notice,” Joe said. “That straight jacket is secured by a lock. I’m unsure what we’d need to do to remove the jacket without the bag. Based on what I’ve read about adult babies, more locks may be involved in getting the diaper off. It was just easier to bring the bag along.”

“Better call the wife,” Jack said. “She’s the one who requested our help.”

Joe nodded and dialed the phone.

Nancy stopped squirming and tried to relax. Mellie would get her out of this.

“Hello,” Mellie said

“Melanie Williams?” Joe asked.

“Yes. Who is this?”

“My name is Joseph Garrond. I’m part of the PET team you requested to perform a wellness check on your husband, Marcus Williams.”

“Oh good,” Mellie said. “Is everything okay? How is Marc?”

“We’re transporting him to the hospital,” Joe said. “We haven’t been able to communicate with Marc or any other adult personality. How soon can you come to the hospital?”

Mellie sighed. “I can’t find a flight earlier than my planned flight next Monday.”

“Understood,” Joe said. “We will expect your arrival on Monday. Is there any way to deactivate this robot nanny?”

Mellie cleared her throat. “I’m sorry. As far as I know, I have to be there in person to turn it off. I’ve never used the Adult Baby Protocol before.”

“So you can’t order this thing to let your husband out of the diapers?” Joe asked. “Hospital staff won’t change him.”

“They won’t have to,” Mellie explained. “The bag will take care of that. I know it’s unusual, but please don’t try to interfere with the DB2000. It’s been programmed to keep Marc safe in my absence. That device alerted me to the crisis this morning. It brought him back home after he ran away.”

“Marc ran away from home?” Joe asked.

*Not Marc. Frank. A child alter fled the house in terror. Restraints were required to prevent him from trying again before your arrival.*

“I see,” Joe said slowly. “I suppose we can classify the diaper as a wearable medical device.”

“I don’t like to think what might have happened if the DB2000 wasn’t in a protective protocol during my absence,” Mellie said. “Thank you for watching out for him. I’ll be there as soon as I can.”

“You hear that?” Joe said to Nancy. “You’ll be with us for at least a week. But from what I’ve heard, you’ll be with us a lot longer than that.”

“Yeah,” Jack said. “And we’re not going to get that diaper off for at least a week. Imagine going to group therapy in a thick diaper.”

“I wouldn’t do it,” Jim said. “Better settle in, guys. We’ve been rerouted to a hospital in the next state over.”

“What!” Joe shouted. “Why?”

“There are only a few hospitals left that can handle Dissociative Identity Disorder,” Jim explained. “We have to drive this guy all the way to Utah.”

Joe sighed. “Why not take him to an airport and fly him to Utah?”

“That would take longer,” Jim said. “Just settle in for a long ride with a decent amount of overtime.”

“Are we going to have to feed the patient during this trip?” Joe asked. “Cause I’m not sure releasing him is wise.”

*Sufficient sustenance will be provided.* Doctor Diaper pulled a milk bottle out of the bag. *This will also calm him.* The tentacles removed the pacifier and put the bottle in its place.

Nancy fought against it for a couple of minutes before retreating inside.

Sally gladly drank the bottle and drifted off to sleep.

“I’m starting to wish we had one of these for every difficult patient,” Joe said.

*That can be arranged.*

Content: FiveDonald woke up in a strange bed. There was an empty bottle next to him, as usual. He sat up in bed, feeling the comforting bulk of the diaper. “Where am I?”

*Southern Utah Trauma Center.*

“Utah?” Donald asked. “How did I get here?”

*The PET team was unable to find an adult personality. Circumstances required a Residential Treatment facility.*

“If I’m in a Trauma Program, why am I still wearing a diaper?” Donald asked.

*Adult Baby Protocol remains in effect.*

“I’m surprised they allowed that,” Donald said.

*Program requirements have not been met.*

Donald nodded and got out of bed. He was wearing a dragon sleeper with a tail. “Can I change into something more appropriate to meet the staff and patients?”

Doctor Diaper removed the sleeper and replaced it with shortalls.

“Thank you,” Donald said as he left the room.

He only got ten steps down the hallway before a woman said, “Hello, Frank.”

“I’m Donald.”

“Really? I could have sworn you said your name was Frank. I’m Violet.”

“Probably did,” Donald said. “But Frank is only six years old. I’m twelve.”

Violet looked confused.

“Do you know what Dissociative Identity Disorder is?” Donald asked.

“Of course I do,” Violet said. “That’s why I’m here. But I didn’t know you were a DID patient, too. And you said Frank is only six? That explains a few things.”

“How long have we been here?” Donald asked.

“I got here three days ago,” Violet said. “And the whole time I’ve been here, I’ve been talking to Frank. Well, he doesn’t say much. I see you finally got out of your sleepers.”

“Frank was out for three days?” Donald asked. “What happened?”

Violet shrugged. “He never told me.”

They entered the common room with a dozen comfortable chairs in a circle. Three women and one man sat around working on various things.

Two of them waved and said, “Hi, Frank. Hi, Harriet.”

“I’m Violet.”

“I’m Donald.”

“You are?” one woman asked. “I didn’t know you were a multiple too.”

“Why else would I be here?” Donald asked.

“We thought you were a drug addict here to get clean.”

“So Frank didn’t tell anyone why we were brought here?” Donald asked.

They all shook their heads.

“Frank didn’t say much.”

“So I’ve heard,” Donald said. “Three whole days as Frank.”

“No,” the guy said. “Frank has been here for a week.”

“A week?” Donald shouted.

“I’m Harry.”

“Nice to meet you,” Donald said. “I need to figure out why I’m here.”

“Frank didn’t tell you?” Harry asked.

Donald shook his head. “The last thing I remember, I was at home, watching the news…”

“Did you see something disturbing?” Harry asked. “I know I did.”

“What do you mean?” Donald asked. “Everything went blank right after they started talking about some new law that passed.”

“Yup,” Harry said. “That landed me here, too. They changed the law so that everyone is eventually eligible for parole. The guy who abused me for six years was released from prison because of that law. Apparently, Betsy, my inner protector, swore she was going to find that guy and kill him. So, here we are.”

“What was his name?” Donald asked.

“Victor Tanlin.”

Donald gasped and fell backward. Violet kept him from hitting his head and he landed on the thick wet diaper.

“He got you too?” Harry asked. “Small world.”

“He’s my birth father,” Donald said. “And yes, he abused me for eight years. Thanks, Violet.” He got off the floor and into a chair. “That explains everything.”

“I still don’t understand the diapers,” Violet said.

Donald sighed. “I had a bad cold, and my wife was heading out of town.”

“So she put you in a diaper?” Violet asked.

Donald nodded. “The diaper bag can diagnose and treat a wide range of illnesses.”

“And you’re still wearing them?” Harry asked. “Why?”

“Well, my wife accidentally activated the Adult Baby mode,” Donald said. “So only she can end the Adult Baby Protocol. And she’s been at a women’s retreat all week. Wait. You said I’ve been here a full week. That means she should be coming today.”

A woman approached. “Hello, Frank. Are you ready?”

Donald looked up at her. She looked like one of the staff. “I’m Donald, actually. Ready for what?”

“Your therapy session.”

“Sure,” Donald said. He followed the woman to her office and sat down. “What’s your name?”

“I’m Penny. Has Frank shared any information about what we’ve discussed for the last week?”

Donald shook his head. “I just found out my birth dad was released from prison last week. I’m guessing Frank caused quite a scene.”

“He’s not the only one,” Penny said.

“Really?” Donald said. “The others out there said they’ve only talked to Frank.”

“I’ve talked to Sally and Nancy,” Penny said. “How old are you, Donald?”

“Twelve,” Donald said.

Penny jotted something down. “Are you able to access an adult?”

Donald closed his eyes and focused, searching for Marc. There was a wall separating Marc again. So he searched for Milo, but again ran into a wall. He opened his eyes and said, “They’ve put up walls again. Milo hasn’t walled me off in years. Come to think of it, Sally and Nancy should have told me about their sessions. I can’t hear anyone else’s thoughts, and no one is responding.”

“Sally and Nancy both said the same thing,” Penny said. “We can’t make much progress unless I can talk to an adult.”

Donald frowned. “I understand. Things must be pretty bad for everyone to be hiding like this.”

“Do you know why you came here?” Penny asked.

“I just found out my birth dad was let out of prison,” Donald said. “Frank must have been terrified. Did he attack someone, or run away?”

“He ran away,” Penny said. “And I’m surprised you can talk so casually about your dad.”

“Oh, no. Victor isn’t my dad,” Donald corrected. “I never met him. But he’s the only father Frank ever knew. Frank still thinks we live with Victor.”

Penny wrote a bunch more notes. “Your wife is coming today. Are you excited to see her?”

Donald nodded. “I miss Mellie. She can get this diaper off me.”

Penny smiled. “I must say, you’re the first patient we’ve had that we’ve permitted to wear diapers while here. Not the first to ask, but the first to get permission.”

“But only because you couldn’t get it off, right?” Donald asked.

Penny nodded. “You don’t really need diapers, so they can get in the way of the work we need to do here.”

“Yeah,” Donald said. “Sally needs them. She’s wet the bed now and then. Usually when she has a scary dream.”

“So you sometimes still wet the bed?” Penny asked.

“Sally does,” Donald corrected. “I just enjoy the feel of the diaper, and Sally is much happier when we wear diapers. Without a diaper on, I don’t think you’d be able to talk to Sally.”

“So, what is your role in your system?” Penny asked.

“I watch out for the little parts, like Sally,” Donald said. “I try to make sure everyone inside gets their needs met.”

“Including Marc?” Penny asked.

“Marc is a tough case,” Donald said. “He just found out about the rest of us. He just found out he was adopted. And the next day, the father he never knew he had was let out of prison. I have no idea how long he might be gone.”

“You only have two adult parts?” Penny asked.

“There used to be more,” Donald said. “But they integrated into Milo. So now it’s just Milo and Marc. The rest of us are babies, kids, tweens, and a couple teens like Nancy.”

“Well, there isn’t much more I can do until I can talk to Marc,” Penny said. “I’m glad to see you finally come out. We’ll talk again tomorrow. Hopefully, you can persuade Marc to come out and talk.”

“Hopefully,” Donald said.

The day went by quickly, and Donald was pretty sure he missed half of it. After dinner, visitors came in, including… “Mellie!” Donald shouted. He ran over and gave her a hug.

“It’s so good to see you, Marc,” Mellie said.

“I’m Donald. Marc hasn’t come out since the news report.”

Mellie sighed. “It’s good to see you, too, Donald. Are you doing okay?”

Donald shrugged. “I didn’t wake up until this morning.”

“Then who has been out all week?” Mellie asked.

“Frank,” Donald said. “But I think Nancy came out today as well.”

“You think?” Mellie repeated. “I thought you knew what was going on inside.”

“Not today,” Donald said. “No one is sharing thoughts or memories right now.”

“It will get better,” Mellie said. “I spoke with your boss, and you’re officially on sick leave. If you can’t get back home and back to work by next Monday, you’ll be placed on Disability.”

“I understand,” Donald said. “If Marc lets me, I’ll tell him.”

“Well, let’s get that diaper off of you, shall we?” Mellie said.

“I’ll go get the DB2000,” Donald said.

The bag was still in his room. He hadn’t been changed all day and honestly didn’t know when the next diaper change was available. He picked up the bag and took it back to the cafeteria. “Here it is.”

“Okay. DB2000, turn off Adult Baby Protocol,” Mellie said.

*Negative. Program parameters not fulfilled.*

“What does that mean?” Donald asked.

“I don’t know,” Mellie said. “I didn’t even know an Adult Baby Protocol existed until you told me about it.”

*Program parameters included a duration of Adult Baby Protocol. That duration has not elapsed.*

“What duration?” Mellie asked.

The DB2000 played back Mellie’s voice saying, *I’ll be your ‘mommy’ until you’re all better.*

“But he is all better,” Mellie said. “The flu only lasted a day.”

*Additional diagnoses were added as they were discovered. The patient is not ‘all better’ yet.*

“Wait,” Donald said. “You’re saying you’re going to keep me diapered until you’ve cured all my diagnoses?”

*Affirmative.*

“What is the current list?” Mellie asked.

*Asthma, Dissociative Identity Disorder, Prostate Cancer.*

“But there’s no cure for asthma,” Donald said.

“Cancer!” Mellie repeated. “He has cancer?”

*Confirmed. Cancer markers were detected. Treatment protocols have been initiated for cancer, asthma, and DID.*

“How long are the treatment protocols?” Mellie asked.

*Cancer treatment, 6 to 8 months. Asthma treatment, 15 to 36 months. DID treatment length unknown.*

Donald got a slight smile on his face. “I’m stuck in diapers until my DID is cured?”

*Affirmative.*

“That might be the rest of my life,” Donald said.

*Affirmative.*

Mellie picked up the bag and whispered, “I can’t have my husband locked in diapers forever. I have needs.”

*Understood. Temporary or partial removal is permitted to satisfy your needs.*

“So that’s it?” Donald asked. “I’ll be diapered for the rest of my life?”

“Apparently so,” Mellie said. “Did they tell you how long you’ll be here?”

Donald shook his head. “The first step is for an adult to come out and talk to the therapist.”

“Are you saying Marc hasn’t been out all week?” Mellie asked.

Donald nodded. “I have no idea how long he’ll be gone.”

“I’ll do what I can to get you out of here,” Mellie said. “You do the same.”

Donald nodded.

Marc found himself sitting in an office with a strange woman. “Who are you?”

“I’m Penny. And what is your name?”

“Marc.”

Penny smiled. “I’m so glad to meet you.”

“Where am I?” Marc asked. He tried to shift his legs and found he was definitely still in a diaper.

“You’re at the Southern Utah Trauma Center,” Penny said. “I’ve met many of your alters and heard so much about you. It is a good sign that I’m finally able to meet you.”

“What do you mean, finally?” Marc asked. “How long have I been here?”

“Two months,” Penny said.

Marc stood up. “Two months! Where is Mellie?”

“She visits once a week,” Penny said. “She will be very glad to hear that you’ve returned.”

“Why am I here?” Marc asked.

“There was a traumatic event,” Penny said. “But it’s been resolved. If you can show up for therapy again tomorrow, we can discuss sending you home.”

“Good,’ Marc said. “I have kids and a job.”

Penny smiled. “You have a lot to catch up on.”

“What was the traumatic event?” Marc asked.

“Your birth father was released from prison, throwing your system into a panic,” Penny explained.

“What!” Marc shouted. “But he’s a child sex offender! How can they let a man like that out on the streets? Wait. You said the situation was resolved. What do you mean? Is Victor back in prison?”

Penny cleared her throat. “You aren’t the only one he hurt. Apparently, one of his other victims tracked him down and killed him.”

“He’s dead,” Marc said, sinking back into the chair. “And I’ve been stuck inside for two months.”

Penny nodded. “Our time is up for today. You can head to breakfast now.”

Marc waddled out of the room, noticing for the first time he was wearing a pair of shortalls. “If Mellie has been here, why am I still diapered?” he asked himself.

He heard an answer from inside but couldn’t understand what they were saying.

Marc was in the hospital for three more days before Mellie came and drove him home. She was so happy to see him and spent the first two hours of the road trip catching Marc up on the last two months of their children’s lives.

When she finally took a break from talking, Marc asked, “Why am I still in diapers? I thought you would deactivate the Adult Baby Protocol when you got back.”

Mellie cleared her throat. “The others inside haven’t told you?”

Marc shook his head. “I can feel them there but can’t hear them.”

“Well, the DB2000 said it won’t end Adult Baby Protocol until you’ve been cured,” Mellie said.

“But the flu was cured the very next day,” Marc said. “What else is it trying to cure?”

“Well, for one thing, your asthma,” Mellie said.

“It can do that?” Marc asked.

Mellie nodded. “But it says it will take months.”

“It’s been months,” Marc said. “Is there anything else?”

Mellie nodded. “You’ve been diagnosed with a mild case of prostate cancer.”

“I have?” Marc asked, amazed. “How long will that cure take?”

“Over a year,” Mellie said.

“A whole year in diapers?” Marc asked.

“Actually, a little longer,” Mellie said.

“Why?” Marc asked.

“The bag also wants to cure your DID,” Mellie said.

Marc swallowed hard. “And how long will that take?”

“I don’t know,” Mellie admitted. “Donald thinks you may be stuck in diapers for the rest of your life.”

Marc wanted to scream, but instead, he just sighed. “Will I be allowed to work from home?”

Mellie shook her head. “You’re officially on Short-Term Disability. But the doctors said it can take years to recover from such a large upset.”

Marc sighed again. “At least I have you and the kids.”

Mellie nodded. “I’ve told them about the diapers and how you’ll be using the DB2000 until you’re all better.”

“It’s pretty hard to hide such a large diaper,” Marc said. “Were they okay with it?”

“They understood,” Mellie said. “They’ve all used it for a cold now and then. In their minds, you’ve just got a really bad sickness that will take a long time to heal.”

“A long time indeed,” Marc said. “From what I’ve read, I may never be fully recovered. Which means I may never get out of diapers.”

“Even if you don’t, I still love you,” Mellie said. She pulled into a hotel parking lot.

“What are we doing here?” Marc asked.

“I haven’t been with you for two months,” Mellie said. “We’re staying the night here. Maybe two.”

Marc smiled. “Sounds good to me!”

The End.

Still on chapter 3. Love this story.

@larikaz, I wonder if you have DID as well? If not, sorry to poop on your story, please be careful. Things like appropriation. If yes, also please be careful, no explanation needed.

I decided to enjoy your story as a fantasy. It is well-told and funny.

If you know anything about DID, my profile pic will tell you what you need to know.
