The twins were BOTH crying now. Lily just wished her little sisters would shut up. Couldn’t they give everyone a moment’s peace?
‘Lily,’ shouted her mum from the kitchen. ‘Could you check and see what the twins are up to? I’m in the middle of some cooking.’
Felicity and Flopsy were sitting on the floor, surrounded by, and covered in, decorations they had pulled off the Christmas tree. Somehow, in five minutes of being left to play quietly by themselves, they had turned themselves into tinsel and bauble Christmas monsters and the tree into a disaster zone. The broken fairy lights winked pathetically from the branches. Luckily they were battery ones, thought Lily, and not mains voltage!
‘Mum! They’ve pulled stuff off the Christmas tree!’
‘I told you to keep an eye on them! Can’t I ask you do anything?’
‘Mum, I’m trying to do my holiday homework!’
‘Oh, my goodness! Look at the state of them! They both need a nappy change as well. I don’t know how I am supposed to cook. And it’s just two days until Christmas! I don’t know why you’re trying to do your homework now of all times, but if you can’t be any help, you might as well go upstairs to your bedroom and do it there. But when I was your age..’
Sometimes, though she really didn’t want to admit it to herself, Lily wished that her two little sisters had never come along, however cute they might be. She sat forlornly at the desk in her bedroom, but she really didn’t feel like doing any school work now. She took out her phone, and started to check for messages. Hayley, her best friend at school, had sent her an animated Christmas card. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer pranced about in the snow to his silly tune, spreading glittery snowflakes through the air.
OK.. Thanks, Hayley, thought Lily. Let me send you something equally tasteful.
But her heart wasn’t really in it. To be honest, she was worried about something. Last night, she had wet the bed.
Mum hadn’t said anything, but she had definitely noticed, because she had changed the sheets. It didn’t happen very often, and every time it did, Lily was so embarrassed that she swore to herself she would never let it happen again.
She could hear the twins wailing in chorus in the bathroom, as mum struggled to change them both.
‘Mum, do you want any help?’ she asked at the door.
‘That’s lovely of you to offer!’ said mum. ‘Thank you! I’ve nearly finished though. Felicity is all clean and dry, doesn’t she look pretty? And Flopsy just needs her tights on. Maybe you can do that?’
When they were ready they suddenly stopped crying and started toddling unsteadily round the bathroom, exploring.
‘Lily,’ said mum, in that moment of relative quiet. ‘I’ve got something to say to you, love. Actually, I’ve got you something.’ She seemed embarrassed, rather uncharacteristically. ‘Look, here. I was just thinking, it might be an idea if you try wearing these at night.’
Drynite pyjama pants!
‘Mum, no! I’m not wearing those!’ Lily flushed bright red.
In the end, at bedtime mum opened the pack, and left one of the..pyjama pants.. out on her bed, along with her unicorn pyjamas.
‘Goodnight, darling! Sleep well!’
Lily took her daytime clothes off and put on her pyjama top. Then she looked at the pants. They had a design on that wasn’t too babyish, because they were for ‘teen’ girls, so it said on the packet.
Curiously, blushing, she slipped her feet into them and pulled them up. They felt quite comfortable.
No one needs to know, she thought. Apart from mum of course. And it will be much less soggy if I wet the bed again.
She pulled on the pyjama trousers. After that, no one would have even noticed that she had those pants on underneath. They were really quite like ordinary underwear.
‘Ho, ho, ho, little girl! Welcome to the North Pole!’
Lily blinked, and blinked again. It was Father Christmas! She wanted to say that she wasn’t a little girl, but he was pretty big, in fact he towered above her, so in relation to him she supposed perhaps she was actually quite little. He looked just like his picture in a Christmas card, with his enormous snowy-white beard, his red nose and cheeks, and his twinkling eyes.
‘Well, you are a lovely little girl! Do you know, not many children are good enough to actually be allowed into the North Pole?’
‘Father Christmas,’ Lily began, ‘I’m not..’ But somehow the words wouldn’t quite come out. It sounded more like ‘Dab, dab, dab..’
Father Christmas chuckled again, so heartily that a little bit of snow slipped off the nearby fir trees and fell with a soft swishing sound.
‘Well, you might be in for a surprise! Big children can’t come and see me in the North Pole, in fact, they can’t see me at all. That is because they would tell everyone about me! And that wouldn’t do. Only little tots like you are allowed. And not all of them, not by any means!’
Lily looked down at herself. She was wearing pink T-bar shoes, white tights, and pink dungaree shorts. And there were some baby hands in front of her, little, fat, podgy toddler hands. In disbelief she wiggled her fingers. Yes, they were her hands!
Lily realised that she was dressed just like the twins had been earlier in the day. And, her bottom seemed to be very padded too! Just like them, she was wearing a nappy.
‘Ba..ba..naa..’ she began.
‘Oh, you won’t be able to speak like a big girl, while you are here at the North Pole,’ said Father Christmas. ‘But we know what you want to say already, so don’t worry! All my helpers and friends are very excited, they are just longing to meet you. Come on, Rudolph! Help me tuck the little girl into this comfy bed in my sleigh, and we’ll go for a drive through the forest.’
Father Christmas gently picked up Lily with his two big hands, and Rudolph illuminated the furry bed with his shining nose. It was the warmest, most comfortable bed that Lily had ever laid in.
‘There you are! Now, relax and enjoy the ride! Whoopee!’
There was tinkling of bells and a swishing of frosty air. Lily’s head was a little raised, so she could see the snowy shapes of the fir trees slipping away on each side. Father Christmas was laughing and shouting at the reindeer. “Faster, faster! Let’s really fly!’
Lily felt the sleigh take off, just like a plane leaving the runway, and they were high in the sky. Bright cold stars shone above, and the forest rushed past below.
It seemed as if they were travelling for hours. Lily felt so safe and comfortable that she drifted off to sleep, even though she was dimly aware that she needed to go to the toilet.
‘Here we are! The North Pole!’ There was big bump as the sleigh landed on the snowy ground.
Lily was still half asleep, but now she really wanted to go to the toilet, so much that she wouldn’t be able to keep it in much longer. Did they have toilets at the North Pole?
‘Father Christmas,’ she said, ‘I need a wee, really badly!’ It just came out as ‘Wa wa wa,’ but Father Christmas understood, just as he had said he would.
‘You don’t need a toilet! You’re a baby! And you’re wearing a nappy! Just wee and poo in your nappy.’
And before Lily had even thought about whether that made sense or not, she felt a warm wet sensation in her nappy, spreading round the tops of her legs. It grew and grew, and then she didn’t need a wee any more! It was so easy.
Father Christmas picked her up, so she could see properly out over the side of the sleigh. She gasped with surprise and delight at the busy scene.
There were elves dressed in green, with tall hats, piling up presents in the snow. There were reindeer, relaxing together and guzzling down hay and other special reindeer treats, stocking up for the big night. There were big smiling snowmen, and chirpy robins flittering about. To the left there seemed to be a wrapping department. All sorts of gifts were piled up, and elves were frantically trying to wrap them up in Christmas paper. One grumpy-looking elf had the job of attaching labels, using a big ball of string and some oversized scissors. Away to the right, propped up by some tall decorated Christmas trees, huge sacks were being filled with wrapped and labelled presents. Not far away, some elf musicians were playing lively Christmas music on glockenspiels and flutes and even a tuba.
Delicious smells wafted over, all mixed together, sweet and spicy and full of Christmas.
‘Hello Father Christmas!’ everyone shouted joyfully when they saw that he had arrived. ‘Hurray! Hurray!’ And there was a huge round of applause, as everyone stopped what they were doing for a moment.
‘Hello! I have a special guest today. Baby Lily! Here she is, look, She has come to see us all at the North Pole, and she has been a very good girl!’ He held up her up high in his hands so that everyone could see. It was a bit scary, but exciting too. She felt her legs dangling in down in the cold air.
Father Christmas accompanied her personally to meet his loyal helpers of all different kinds. She met elves and snowmen and robins and reindeers, and characters from Christmas films and books that she had only thought existed in fiction! Was that the Grinch? And that looked like Shrek in the distance? And was that Ana and Elsa from Frozen?
Rudolph pranced happily along beside them, making sure there was plenty of light to see everyone and everything by. As Lily was just a baby, Father Christmas carried her in his big soft arms.
A friendly Christmas fairy said, ‘What a little darling! Do you think she is hungry?’
‘Oh I hadn’t thought about that,’ smiled Father Christmas. ‘Although I know everything, I don’t always think about it! Let’s take her to the Lovely Beautiful Drinky Tree. That’ll be just right for her.’
Lovely beautiful drinky TREE? thought Lily, but she had given up trying to ask questions.
And there they were, in front of a huge Christmas tree. The branches swished apart, so that there was room for the little party to enter together, Father Christmas holding baby Lily, Rudolph, and a dozen or so elfish and snowman hangers on.
‘Lift her up and let her suck!’ they cried.
The trunk of the tree was soft, very soft, like the softest skin! And it smelt sweet and delicious. As Lily’s lips grew near it, she couldn't help opening her little mouth. As she did so, it was filled with an unbelievably tasty liquid, so gorgeously lovely that she just wanted to drink and drink and drink until she burst. She was dimly aware of cheering and a lot of ooh and ahs from the onlookers.
When she was as full as she could possibly be, she drifted off to sleep again. And when she awoke, she was still in Father Christmas’s arms. The only thing was, she really wanted to wee again. And, this time, she really wanted a poo too!
‘Ho ho ho,’ laughed Father Christmas gently. ‘Remember, you are a baby. You don’t have to go to the toilet! That is what your nappy is for. Babies wee and poo in their nappies, didn’t you know?’
So Lily tried doing a little wee, and she felt the warm wet feeling spreading around the tops of the legs again. And when poo wanted to come out of her bottom, she didn’t really try to stop it, and it slid out into her nappy. For a moment it felt lumpy and sticky around her bottom, but then she forgot all about it.
‘Come on!’ cried Father Christmas. ‘Let’s go and see the polar bears! I think they are skating on the Lake of Strawberry Ice Cream! I know what you’re thinking, ice cream is too sloppy to skate on. But that’s where magic comes in!’
If it was day, or a night, or a week, or a month, who knows? Time seemed to have no meaning. But whichever one it was, it was the happiest in Lily’s life. There was everything she ever wanted, and lots of things she couldn’t even have imagined until she saw them! And all the time she was surrounded by love: such cosy, warm, powerful love, as big as the sky and as deep as the Earth! And when finally it was time to go, everyone, each elf, every robin, all the fairies, polar bears, penguins, princesses and princes, they all wanted to say goodbye in person, so it took ages and ages..
Lily could hear a knocking sound.
‘Lily, wake up! It is half past ten! You have had a good sleep! Are you all right? We’ve brought you breakfast in bed, me and the twins that is! We think you need more treats!’
And there at her bedroom door was mum, with the two little girls clean and bright and beaming. There was a tray in her hand.
Lily’s face had gone very red . She could feel that her pyjama pants were completely wet, and they were a bit sticky and lumpy at the back too. But what could she do?
‘Mum, thank you!’
The breakfast was delicious.
And everyone had a very happy Christmas.

Anna and Elsa meeting at northpole would be cool.
Do you think that Lily will be continued, or is it an one chapter story?

Ana and Elsa from Frozen? Now there is an idea! Let it gooo... I still haven't seen Frozen 2, that is a good reminder. Frozen is one of my all-time favourite films.
It was written as a complete story, but maybe could be continued!
