Content: This is a story about a rock band who finds a homeless girl under the stage of a venue they play at. If only they knew the insanity that would ensue. Our protagonist Klaus will have to learn many values on this wacky journey
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Finally! I thought that gig would never end." Finley shouted over the crowd of rebel teens and young adults.
"No kidding" I replied.
Our band was Monkey Wrench, a small but popular group consisting of John Finley, me, Ridley, and Jamie (a quiet tomboy who faked being a boy to get into the band. She had a major crush on me. I knew she was a girl, but she didn't know I knew her secret)
"Well I think we earned this." Finley said opening a bottle of vodka.
All of a sudden, a security guard came in demanding the band's presence.
"Klaus, you will want to see this." He said pulling me aside.
The guard and I walked under the stage when I couldn't believe my eves. There was a young woman in rags under the stage. She looked about 19 but she was so skinny. It appeared she hadn't eaten in months.
"She won't come out, and she doesn't seem to understand me" The guard said.
I went under the stage to see what I could do. I calmly told her my name, and said I wasn't going to hurt her. She was terrified. She wouldn't or couldn't speak, so I did what I thought was best: I called the paramedics. All of a sudden she leaped forward' latched on to me and started wailing. I felt so bad for her. I decided to go to the hospital with her.
When we arrived, they took the poor girl into a medical shower cleaned her up and I was surprised when they put her in a thick-white medical diaper before putting a gown on her and escorting her to a bed. She barely spoke, and when she did it was often with very weak vocabulary. She bared a striking resemblance to the pictures of my mom I got to see when I was young.
The doctors ran some tests, and they insisted that I stay by the girl the whole time. When they were done the head doctor pulled me aside. I've known her for a long time. She took care of me after I ran away from home. She also provided me with health insurance and even bought me my first guitar.
"Klaus, the girl you found is in very bad shape. She is malnourished, and can barely speak. We've asked you to remain nearby because she seems to know you and trust you. Now we've analyzed her blood and it matches a sample we have almost exactly. Klaus, we think this girl is your twin, or at least your biological sister."
I didn't know what to say. I guess that was another secret I could add to list of secrets my old man had kept from me. That bastard! He was almost never sober. He also paid off CPS so he could keep custody of me. I was basically more of a slave then a son to him.
"Now Klaus, we have no records of this girl. She needs help. She functions at the level of a 3-year old at most. She can't groom or dress herself. She is frightened. Normally, we would send her to the psych ward at bentwood, but we don't think they have the expertise to deal with this. As you might know, we can't find your dad, so you are the last member of your family we can reach. She seems to trust you, so you have two choices. You can check her out yourself and look after her, or you can sign her in to bentwood...the choice is yours."
I took one look at the girl, and I had made up my mind. If she was my twin, the least I could do is give her the life I wanted. Plus, what if my father found out where she was, assuming he knew about her. I was ready to step up.
"I'll take care of her" I said.
I spent the next two weeks in the hospital with the girl, while my band stayed at the local hotel. I named the girl Anne, after my mother. I was given instructions on how to bathe her, change her, and take care of her. She also needed a lot of medicine. Whenever me or the orderlies would feed her she would eat like there was no tomorrow. It was increasingly obvious she was not toilet trained. I was gonna be hard, but I got all of my band mates to agree to help take care of her.
It turns out while was at the hospital, the band found out Jamie was a girl, Finley had been caught with pot in the hotel bathroom, and Ripley was fired for sleeping with a receptionist and getting us in trouble. The band was falling apart, but my family had grown. I was no longer alone. There was another Fishman besides me.
One night back at the hospital, I had just changed Anne's diaper and was watching her sleep when I heard her say 3 words in her sleep that made my heart skip 3 beats. At first I thought I was hearing things, but then she woke up grabbed my hand and said...
"Klaus...My...Bro-ther."

Content: Chapter 2:
bygones aren't bygones/aftermath thought to be lost
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I looked into Anne's eyes. They were sweet and innocent, like a child's. She admired me so much but why. Maybe I did know her. Due to my PTSD, I forgot alot about my childhood. My father was a drunk and a criminal. He was the Don's right hand man in a crime group. All I remember is him beating me for leaving the house, and his lack of sobriety. I thought I was dead, until she saved me.
I had just been beaten my the old bag, and thrown onto the street to lick my wounds. I decided to made a break for it, or so I remember. I had decided that if CPS couldn't help me I would find someone who did. I had been running through the streets in the rain, with only shorts, a t-shirt, and some rags I was using for bandages. I remember being in agony, limping through the empty streets 'til she found me. Her name was Dr. Sarah Parker. I do remember her looking at me with such a tender look. I had been beaten so much, concepts like compassion where foreign to me. I thought she was a menace, until she gave me a hug. Why would a young woman, who was so beautiful, take interest in a 7-year old boy on the street.
I remember just embracing her, bawling my eyes out. I had never been allowed to cry. My old man would kick me if I did. Sarah saved me that night, rushed me to the ER, cleaned me up, and legally adopted me. I finally had a mother. She raised me like I was her own first born, and mad sure I had the best. My band was in town when I met Anne, so I could raise money for the hospital Sarah worked at.
If Anne did know me, why didn't I know her. I decided to talk to her to see what see knew.
"Anne..." I said "I need to ask you some questions. If you understand me, nod ok?"
She nodded her head.
"Lets start easy, how long were you under that stage?"
"Small tunnel home." She said. "No one want dirty girl. Think I'm sick."
I gathered what I could from her. She had had It rough. She said she ran away from a place called 'the shack'. That reminded me of my dad's old place. I had to know more.
"Anne, did the shack look like this?" I handed her the picture of the house from a newspaper article I kept with me.
All of a sudden she started wailing.
"Noooooooooo. No go back to bad place. I won't!" She was crying like crazy, so I gave her the same hug Sarah had given me all those years ago.
"Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh." I whispered "You are living with me from now on. I will always look after you. I might not have been there for you before, but I am here now and nothing will happen to you.
Anne had stopped crying, but she still was pretty shaken. She looked at me with puppy dog eyes and asked...
"Will you sleep with me? I don't wanna be alone."
"Of course Anne." I replied.
That night I slept with Anne, in a hospital bed. Listening to the rain outside. Soon after I got in bed with her, Anne drifted off. Little did I know how much I needed her
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------chapter 2 part 2----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I opened my eyes again, I was not in the hospital. I was in a filthy basement, tied to a chair and gagged. I looked around. I felt smaller, almost a fourth of my current size. I realized it was happening again, a PTSD nightmare {authors note: I suffer from these in real life relating to my past, and the bullying I received, so I have an idea how to write these] I looked in the corner and saw a young girl that looked a lot like Anne.
"There you are boy." A gruff voice growled. Oh no...my father! "What did I tell you would happen if you went in the basement. You found my secret, so I can't let you go scoot free. You're in for the shocking of a lifetime!"
I saw what he meant. There were two sponges hooked up to a battery with jumper cables. He thrust the wet sponges on my chest with full malice
"Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh." I had never had this dream before, but it was so real. Why.
"No, I won't give up!" I shouted, not able to control my own words. "I will set her free...Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh"
Resistance was futile. I thought I was gonna die when I heard...
"Klaus? Klaus! My god...It's worse than I thought. Get Anne out of here and get me 10mg of Lorazepam injection stat! Klaus...It's Sarah...Wake up!"
When I woke up I was in Sarah's arms. There where two Nurses beside her. I had completely trashed the bed, and the room. I had a shooting pain in my legs from the medication. Sarah had a sad look her eyes. She started to cry. She said...
"Klaus, I'm so sorry but I can't let you travel if you're having these violent dreams again. I'm sorry, but you will be staying with me, until we can get you some help. Why didn't you come to me sooner. I think the damage might be more severe than I thought."
Damage, what damage what did she mean. Ever since I was adopted Sarah never kept secrets from me.
"Klaus, it's time I tell you about what really happened the night I rescued you."

Chapter 3:
Battered goods and broken dreams.
"Klaus when I found you, you where barely able to stand. You were so small and sickly, I thought you where 4 at the time. When I got you to the hospital, and ran some tests, I found out you were in very bad shape. You were only seven years old but you looked like a solder I took care of at the V.A. You were burned, beaten, and severely malnourished. You don't remember much about your life, because you had major nerve damage. I didn't think you would live!"
"You were in the ICU for three solid weeks. After that, the doctor had you in O.T for a month, just to get your motor skills up to speed. I never told you this, because you bounced back so fast after I adopted you...but I figured I would eventually. When I brought you home the night after the adoption, you fell right to sleep. Only ten minutes after I left the room, It sounded like a war zone in there. You where bashing, yelling, and flailing in your sleep. It took me 5 minutes to restrain and soothe you. Over time, as you know, these nightmares would lessen in severity, but I think Anne is bringing back damaged or repressed memories."
"The reason I encouraged your music playing at a young age was to give you an outlet for your pain. You where a natural when you ran off in that guitar store, and started playing. I can see you need more professional help. I've already arranged it. Both you and Anne are my legally adopted children, and will begin therapy together as soon as you are released into my care. I'm sorry Klaus, but there's no other way. I don't want to loose you. Anne needs a sturdy older figure, I want you to be that older brother she needs."
So it was settled. I was to live with my adopted mother again, until I was fit to be released from her care. I finally realized, all my fame had just been padding for the horrid past I had lived with.
