Content: This story is heavily inspired by my own childhood. The holiday destination, in particular (I've changed it's name), was a big part of my childhood as we went there many times. I've changed all names of people too. This story will loosely explore and illustrate some of my childhood experiences. Trigger waring: anxiety is mentioned heavily in this story
This story is going to be in a much 'simpler' layout than my previous (I'm Finally Home) story. For those wondering, I am still continuing with that story too.
Feedback is welcome!

'Redwood Pine Parcs'
Part 1
"We're nearly there! Not long to go now." Jenny, Adam's step-mum, announced as she drove down the busy motorway. "Can't wait to get into the retreat. We've needed this holiday for so long. Watch your speed honey, you're doing over 80." Chris, Adam's dad, was sat in the passenger seat. Jenny just sighed and tutted. "Will you stop with the passenger-driving? Who's driving the car? Hm?" she said in an annoyed tone, side-glancing her husband.
Adam was sat in the back, on his own. The straps on his car seat were irritating him, cutting into his neck and legs. Stupid things, just because he wasn't tall enough yet, even at 8 years old, having to sit in this thing was just the worst. He was just staring out the window, not really paying much attention to what his parents were saying. He wished his cousin Dan was going on holiday with them. Adam was in a down-mood. His mind was more focused on the threat his step-mum had made earlier in the day ' if you're naughty, even once, you're going into Kid Zone. We're not having our holiday ruined by your tantrums and misbehaving.' the very thought of Kid Zone sent shivers down Adam's spine. He hated the idea of being abandoned, left with total strangers, whilst his dad and step-mum went off on their own. What if they didn't come back? What if he was left here, forever? What if the other kids were horrible to him?, What about his accidents? So many thoughts rushed through Adam's mind. A lump formed in his throat, he could feel his eyes tearing up. He missed his mum. It was so unfair that mum and dad had to split up. Mum would never send him to Kid Zone or make him do stuff he didn't want to do.
"Hey champ. You awake? We're just about to pull into the services for petrol. Want anything? Sweets? Juice?" Adam's dad asked, looking in the rear-view mirror at Adam. Jenny interjected. "Not sure juice is a good idea Chris, he's still having accidents?" she said, almost in a patronizing tone. Adam could never get the hang of potty training. He didn't really understand why he was still having accidents during the day, it was frustrating. "Do you need a change bud? We've been on the road for a while now." Adam's dad asked. Adam could feel his diaper in his legs through his shorts, it was wet and had swollen slightly. Adam nodded, "I think so dad" there was a parent/child changing toilet in the petrol station services they were stopped at, Adam's dad unclipped him from his car seat and Adam climbed out on his own. Dad grabbed a new diaper and some wipes out the car trunk, they were easily-accessed as they were in their own separate bag.
"We've bought some regular underwear for you with us bud, we're gonna trial them. No pressure though. If you still can't do it, we've got plenty enough diapers too. Mum told me you're still struggling, especially at night. It's ok though, you know? Don't get too upset. We will try everything we can and there's no shame in failing, we just see how things go, right?" Adam's dad always was pretty positive, even though he hadn't seen Adam much since he and his mum had divorced. He wanted to spend more time with his son.
Adam and his dad returned to the car, Adam now in a new diaper, sweets and juice in-hand. He hopped back up into his car seat and dad re-clipped him in. "I know you hate this thing bud, it's the law though. Give it a few months and you'll have a growth spurt!" dad chuckled.
The rest of the journey was pretty uneventful. Adam was quite happy in the back, eating his sweets and drinking a bottle of Ribena whilst trying to colour in his book despite the car moving so much. The family finally arrived at Redwood Parcs. It was beautiful, the trees were massive! Giant, even. Jenny parked up outside the lodge they'd booked for the long-weekend. Adam grew impatient and wanted to get out ASAP, having been in this absurdly uncomfortable car seat for so long with few leg-stretching breaks. "Can I get out now please J?" J is what he called Jenny, his step-mum. He'd never even consider calling her mum. Jenny was in no rush to let Adam out, either. It's like she deliberately did things at times that would escalate or otherwise provoke Adam into having an argument or tantrum. Jenny knew that Adam had ADHD, this just seemed to make her do it more. "Not yet Adam, me and dad are busy unloading the car. Wait there please, there's cars on the road and I don't want you running off. I'll get you in 5 mins or so." Adam grew more and more impatient. This was so unfair, she was doing this deliberately. Adam contemplated just unclipping the straps. He knew how to do it, even though he was told repeatedly never to unstrap them or 'the police would come and tell him off since it's the law'. The car was parked though, what was the issue? Adam decided to go through with his plan and started unclipping the 4 straps, it was heavenly to finally not be confined in that thing - it was so restricting.
Adam removed all the straps fairly easily, they were fiddly though. Once they were off Adam tried the door handle and expected it to open, as he pulled it though there was no 'give'. Damn. Child-locking system was on. Now there was another barrier to overcome, Adam decided to climb through into the front of the car and try to get out that way. He just about made it to the drivers seat and before he could even put his hand on the door handle: "ADAM ARTHUR SMITH, what do you think you're doing? What did I JUST tell you not 5 seconds ago?" Jenny had caught him and she was not happy. Adam stood his ground, though. "SO WHAT. We're parked, I want to get out. JUST GO AWAY. It's not fair that I have to stay in here!" Adam shouted at her, knowing full well it'd anger Jenny further. Even though he backchatted fairly confidently to Jenny, he was still a little worried - maybe that was a mistake? Why didn't he just listen and do what he was told?
Jenny opened the car door followed by a sternly-toned "RIGHT."

Longleat Forest Center Parcs was pretty cool, cause Longleat Safari Park was just up the road.
[End of quote]
Longleat was my favourite Center Parcs, the trees were so awesome. The big dome with all the slides and pools too, was absolutely awesome. And the COOKIES OMG. They were THE BEST.
I've got so many amazing memories of Center Parcs (and some less so amazing which this story will illustrate aha). Did your parents ever hire the bikes? Those were fun, constantly ringing the bell for ppl to get out the way!

"First thing in the morning, you're going to Kid Zone. I warned you. Several times. You've not only disobeyed me, your attitude is, frankly, awful. Maybe you'll even enjoy it this time and me and dad can have some peace and quiet." Adam was shocked that Jenny went straight to that punishment. Kid Zone. He hated it and with good reason. Adam had only previously gone once and it was awful, the fear and anxiety of being abandoned forever. The other children were horrible. As innocent and even FUN as it may seem to other children, even his age, to Adam it was a prison. "I'M NOT GOING." Adam shouted back at Jenny, an empty threat all things considered as realistically he'd have no choice - what exactly could he do? Run away? And go where? Adam knew his threat was empty, he just had to say something to voice his anger at the situation.
"Adam, watch your tone please." Adam's usually chilled and positive dad, Chris, had heard the commotion and intervened. "You knew the rules, bud. Maybe this time you'll enjoy it?" dad said, always trying to put a positive spin on a situation. Jenny just HAD to pipe-up in her usual patronising tone: "And if you don't, well maybe it'll stop you being so disrespectful. There's no need for it, young man." Jenny opened the car door and motioned Adam to hop down. "Now go inside the lodge please. Shoes off at the door. Keep yourself amused, me and dad are going to unload and unpack." Jenny opened the door to the lodge and practically escorted Adam through the door. Why couldn't she have just done that in the first place? It's like she wanted an argument, was looking for an excuse. She always does and Adam knew it....
Adam sat at the dining room table and continued colouring in his book, alone and peacefully. He couldn't shake the anxiety of tomorrow though. Maybe if he was well-behaved for the rest of the night, Jenny and dad would change their mind? Stranger things have happened. Jenny and Adam's dad had finally finished unloading the car and unpacking the cases, it was time for dinner. "Spaghetti bol tonight little man. And guess what? We even brought.... GARLIC. BREAD." Adam's dad said in a cheerful tone. Adam's eyes widened and his mouth was salivating, he loved garlic bread. Who DOESN'T LOVE garlic bread? A big grin formed on Adam's face and the anxiety of tomorrow was practically gone.
Having finished the delicious spaghetti bol, it was time for Adam's bath and then hopefully tv time before bed. Adam's dad started clearing the table. "I'm going to run you a bath and then once you're out, I want you to pick out the clothes you're going to wear tomorrow at Kid Zone. No tv tonight either, since you backchatted me earlier. It's bath and then bed please." Jenny said, her patronising tone stinging Adam's ears. Suddenly, that anxious and terrible feeling returned to Adam. It was as if all the colour in the world had drained away. He just sat there, silently, looking up at his dad who was busy clearing the plates away. He wanted his dad to intervene. Surely he could overrule Jenny? She wasn't his mum. Dad said nothing though. It's as if he agreed with her, silently, if only to keep the peace.
Despite the anxiety, anger and frustration, Adam did as he was told and got in the bath. The mood in the lodge was as quiet as a crypt. Jenny came into the bathroom, helped Adam out of the bath and dried him off. "PJ's and diaper time kiddo, then pick your clothes for tomorrow then bed time. If you're well-behaved tomorrow, AFTER Kid Zone, we'll get ice cream and go to the pool dome. Tomorrow is very much dependent on you, ok?" She said, for once not being overly patronising. Her tone and actions often confused Adam, she could be so different at times, almost nurturing. It was so strange. Was she just doing this to make herself look good? Was this genuine? Adam didn't really know.
Adam followed Jenny into his bedroom where she had already prepared a diaper and his PJ's for the night. "You know kiddo, tomorrow why don't we try big boy underwear? Give them a chance and see how you get on? Like dad said, if you can't do it don't worry." Adam nodded. "Ok, what about if I have an accident though? I don't want the other kids to see. I'll be embarrassed." Adam said, a slight look of concern on his face. "If you don't try, you're never going to get the hang of it." Jenny insisted, almost sounding positive and non-condescending. Jenny patted Adam's bed and motioned for him to hop up and lay down. "Lift your butt please" she said, placing the diaper under him. She then pulled the front of the diaper through his legs and taped it securely on his waist. "Ok, PJ's on please. Then get your clothes ready for tomorrow. Brush your teeth and give your dad a hug goodnight, I'll get you a drink to take to bed with you." Adam jumped off the bed and went over to his wardrobe, Jenny and dad had unpacked his clothes for him. When she wanted to, Jenny could actually be kind of caring and even considerate. It was so weird.
Remembering what Jenny said about no diaper tomorrow, Adam got out some normal underwear, socks, shorts and a t-shirt. It was July weather so it was pretty warm. Adam ran out of his bedroom to say goodnight to his dad, the cold tiles on the floor, chilled by the air-conditioning, freezing his bare feet. He practically threw himself at his dad, nearly knocking him over. "Night dad! I love you, see you tomorrow!" Adam said cheerfully, hugging his dad. "Goodnight son. Best behaviour tomorrow, right? No more backchatting J. I'll wake you in the morning with a hot choccy." Adam's dad kissed him on the head and grabbed a beer out of the fridge, ready to unwind for the evening. Jenny had already poured herself a large glass of wine.
"Come on kiddo, I'll tuck you in." Jenny followed Adam to the bedroom and helped him into bed. "Here's some juice, please don't knock it over in the night if you can help it." Adam nodded and snuggled down into bed with his blankie. "Isn't it about time you got rid of blankie? You're 8 now." Jenny said, playfully tugging Adam's blankie. "NO! He helps me sleep. I'm NEVER getting rid of him." Jenny laughed. "Him, eh? What's his name then?" Adam just ignored Jenny since she already knew the blankie's name, it was Bluey. With that, Jenny got up and walked out to spend the evening with Chris, leaving Adam's door open slightly as he hated it being closed.
Adam struggled to get to sleep that night, the fear of Kid Zone looming over him like a dark shadow. So many thoughts were rushing through his mind, fuelling his anxiety more and more. Adam just closed his eyes and prayed that tomorrow would never come.....
End of part 2. Hope you're all enjoying it so far! If you haven't figured by now, this is a story based on my childhood experience.
If you haven't already, [SHAMELESS PLUG] please check out my other story - recently completed/finished - 'Finally, I'm Home'.

Content: Part 3.
Tomorrow did arrive for Adam. The night went so quickly. Adam was still in bed and as the morning light streamed into his room, his eyes slowly opened. Adam pulled back his covers and blankie and sat on the edge of his bed, rubbing his sleepy eyes. A sudden and unpleasant feeling in his stomach, Adam remembered that today was Kid Zone day. Any nice thoughts he had, his good mood and sleepiness were quickly dismissed as he remembered the last time he was at Kid Zone. Adam hopped out of bed, he could hear his dad and Jenny were up and clanging things around in the kitchen.
Adam opened his bedroom door and was greeted by his dad. "Morning bud. What do you want for breakfast? Fruity Loops? Coco Pops? Toast and jam?" Adam wasn't hungry and the feeling in his stomach got worse, almost to the point of nausea. "I feel sick, dad. I don't want anything." Adam said, holding his tummy. "Aw, you ok kiddo? You've gotta eat something. Try a small bowl." Adam's dad insisted. Adam reluctantly nodded and waited by the breakfast bar, Jenny had seen the interaction and decided to pull Adam's dad to one side and whisper in his ear, Adam could still hear her though as she was clearly making no real effort to keep her voice down. "He's just acting up because he doesn't want to go to Kid Zone, Chris. He doesn't have an upset stomach. He's going to Kid Zone. We're not backtracking now." Jenny said, casting a side-eye at Adam.
Adam frowned at her, a flash of anger in his eyes. She was so nasty when she wanted to be. "Here, bud. Some Fruity Loops and a hot chocolate! After breakfast, we'll get changed and we'll head off. Kid Zone starts at 09:00AM, you'll only be there for a few hours." Adam's dad could see Adam's diaper was wet, the bulkiness clearly visible through his PJ's. "And we'll get that wet diaper off you. Remember, today is big boy undies day. You'll be like dad! Matching underwear!" He said, smiling with a degree of hope that Adam would have a dry day. Adam just smiled back and lifted his arms for his dad to help up on the breakfast bar stool, he slowly began eating his cereal so as to waste as much time as possible. The later they were to Kid Zone, the better!
Adam slowly ate his cereal, watching the clock on the wall. It was going so slowly, each second feeling like an age. This was going to be the worst day ever. Jenny went into Adam's room and put his clothes for the day on his bed, including his 'big boy underwear'. Jenny also packed a bag for Adam, in it were some Pampers diapers, wipes, his packed lunch and a juice box. "Come on Adam, please. We need to leave soon and we've got to walk there, we haven't hired the bikes yet." Jenny called out to Adam. Reluctantly, Adam hopped off the high breakfast bar stool and slowly walked to his bedroom. Every action Adam did was slower, as if he was trying to waste as much time as possible.
"Right, hop up onto the bed and lay down kiddo. I'll take your PJ's off, get that diaper off and give you a freshen up. Then you can get dressed, brush your teeth and we'll head off. I've already packed your bag." Jenny said, in a hurried tone. Adam obliged and slowly climbed up onto the bed. His deliberate slowness was starting to annoy Jenny. "Adam, I know what you're doing and it won't work. Even if we're late, you're still going to Kid Zone." She said, almost aggressively. Jenny was running out of patience. She quickly took Adam's PJ bottoms off, folded them up and put them on the bed. Next, she un-taped Adam's diaper. "Lift your butt please." She said, sternly. She slid the diaper out, rolled it up and put it into a waste bag. She then proceeded to give Adam a freshen up with some baby wipes.
"Ok, all done. Hop off the bed and get dressed please. Then go brush your teeth. We're leaving in 10 mins, so hurry up." Adam hopped off the bed and quickly got dressed, as he pulled on his normal underwear he thought it felt weird. He paused and shuddered slightly at the thought of having an accident in front of everyone. Adam didn't have time though, he didn't want to anger Jenny by being late. He pulled his shorts up, his t-shirt on and lastly his socks. He then put his Velcro Pokémon trainers on. Adam then hurriedly made his way to the bathroom and brushed his teeth. Jenny and dad were waiting by the front door. "Put this backpack on, it's got a spare diaper in it and some wipes. I've packed you a lunch and there's some juice in there as well. You should have everything you need." Jenny said, helping Adam with the backpack straps.
With that, Adam, his dad and Jenny started the short walk to the central hub of Redwood Pine Parcs. The walk there was beautiful, the giant redwood trees towering above them. The green ferns, slightly moistened by the morning dew. The air smelled fresh, the sun was shining and it was looking to be a warm July day. It wasn't long before the trio arrived at the central hub. "Hmm. The sign for Kid Zone says this way! And look honey, we can go to the bike hire place after we drop Adam off." Jenny said to Chris, in a cheery tone. Adam sighed heavily. This was so unfair.
The winding pathways carved through the beautiful woods and eventually they arrived at the entrance to Kid Zone. There it was, the colourful and bright sign above the door. 'Kid Zone'. To most, the sign was probably a cheery and positive sight - promising a day of fun, activities and making new friends. To Adam it may as well have said 'Prison Camp'. Adam could feel his legs getting shaky, a lump formed in his throat. He could hold back the tears no longer. "Please dad, I don't want to go. I'll be good! Please don't let Jenny send me in there! I hate it, I hate it, I hate it!" Adam said, panicking.
Chris, Adam's dad, knelt down and hugged him. He gently wiped away his tears with his thumb. "Come on, son. You can do this. It's only for a little while, me and Jenny will be back before you know it! Now come on, dry those tears and give me a smile." Adam forced a smile, not wanting to disappoint dad. "There you go. You'll be absolutely fine, I promise. You know we'd never put you somewhere dangerous or unsafe. It'll be a great day, you'll do loads of fun stuff, meet new friends, all sorts of stuff!" Chris said, his in his familiar positive tone.
Jenny also came over to Adam, although much less comforting than dad. "You'll be fine. Now, if you have an accident you tell the staff, ok? They'll change you. And remember, if you don't want to go to Kid Zone again, I want you start being a good boy. No more attitude. No more tantrums. After today, hopefully you'll learn how to behave." Jenny lectured in her usual passive-aggressive and patronising tone.
The family made their way to the sturdy glass door of Kid Zone and were greeted by a staff member. "Oh hey there! Welcome to Kid Zone! I'm Amy and I'll be looking after you today, champ!" The extremely cheerful staff member said, pointing at Adam and smiling. Amy was a Kid Zone staff member, in her mid-20's. Amy was wearing a bright sunshine yellow polo shirt with a giant rainbow printed on it, the words 'Kid Zone Staff' underneath the rainbow in big bold rainbow colours. She looked at her clipboard. "Hmm. You must be.... Adam! You're my last arrival! Let's get you inside and I'll just finish up with mum and dad." Adam's dad patted Adam's shoulder and motioned him to go inside.
Before Adam could react to his dad, he felt his hand being gently guided by another staff member, wearing the same bright yellow polo shirt Amy was wearing. Adam resisted slightly but could not break free, the staff had too strong a grip around his wrist. "Wai-, no I want to speak to my dad! DA-" Adam yelled, protesting. "Come on, sweety. The other kids are already inside. Mum and dad will be back soon." The staff member said as she gently guided Adam through the glass door. The second staff member was also a female, maybe slightly older than Amy.
"Adam sometimes has accidents, we've put spare diapers in his backpack. His lunch is in there and a juice box. Adam has ADHD and can sometimes act up, sorry in advance if there's any misbehaving! Me and Chris will be back at around 4 to pick him up. Adam tends to get tired but doesn't like taking naps." Jenny said, as if reading from a script. She couldn't wait for some alone time with Chris. "Oh, that's ok!" Amy said, smiling brightly. "We're all qualified child minders, first aid trained and to be honest most of the kids here are in pull-ups or diapers. We're no strangers to changing nappies! We do have some older kids in today, hopefully Adam will make some friends! Just sign here, here and here. You've already paid in full according to my records, no need for a deposit. Come by at 4 and we'll let you in! See you soon and have an amazing day!" Amy said, seeing Chris and Jenny off.
Amy followed behind Adam who was already inside at this point, still being held by the hand. Amy closed the door and activated the electronic security lock. The place had to be very secure, not only to prevent the children from leaving but to also stop unauthorised access. The safety of the children was paramount, clearly. To Adam, it was like being imprisoned. Amy was at the front desk and wrote Adam's name on a white sticker, handing it to the other staff member to stick on his chest. "There we go! Now, let's go and see the other kids and see what fun activities we've got going on today! I'm Claire by the way, nice to meet you Adam!" Claire said as she firmly stuck the name-sticker to Adam's chest. As if the sturdy, electronically locked glass door wasn't enough, separating the entrance and the large hall of the Kid Zone building was a tall metal gate, operated manually by whoever was sitting at the front desk. The place was like a literal prison. There was no way through the metal door without being 'buzzed' through.
Adam was just stunned, a somewhat vacant look on his face. 'So this is what hell feels like' Adam thought to himself, being almost pulled by the hand by Claire.

Adam was horrified, this hellish place known as Kid Zone was more like a prison than anything else. He could feel his bladder getting full and he suddenly remembered he wasn't wearing a diaper - panic washed over him like a tidal wave, his legs turned weak and his eyes widened, anxiety in it's truest form. Thoughts of sheer embarrassment rushed through Adam's mind, having an accident here would simply be dread made manifest.
"And this is our atrium! This is where you'll have lunch with the other 'big' kids!" Claire, the Kid Zone staff member said in a cheery tone. "Come on Adam, the other kids are playing in the courtyard making the most of the sun." Claire said as she firmly but gently gripped Adam's wrist to the wide open doors leading to the sunny courtyard. "Erm, I think I need the toilet please, I'm desperate-" before Adam could finish his sentence, Claire quickly ushered him into the courtyard "you're wearing a diaper sweety, mum mentioned you still have accidents. I have to go fill in some paperwork, go ahead and make some friends, play and enjoy the sun!" Claire said rather quickly, clearly more concerned with completing her paperwork. Claire didn't know that Adam wasn't currently wearing a diaper as it was 'big boy underwear' day, Jenny conveniently neglected to mention this to the staff. That and the fact the Claire called Jenny 'mum' really stung Adam. She wasn't his mum, no matter how much she faked it to the world.
Adam's bladder continued to fill up at an alarming rate. Adam could see the other kids in the playground having fun and enjoying themselves, friendships were already made as Adam was late to join. Introductions were going to be somewhat awkward. Adam suddenly felt so alone, petrified to even move. That's when he felt a hand touch his shoulder, "YOU'RE IT!" a high-pitched voice screamed. Adam was startled and shuddered. A girl, around Adam's age, had tagged Adam by touching his shoulder. "Hi by the way! I'm Sarah. YOU'RE IT!" she repeated. Adam didn't know how to react, and stuttered: "Oo- OK! Hi! I'm Ad-" Sarah and a group of other children ran off expecting Adam to chase them as the tagged 'it'. Adam didn't even have a chance to respond.
The courtyard was huge, fully fenced by a tall and imposing solid steel mesh wall. "Hey!" Adam called out, still shocked at the situation. He had little choice but to join in or be viewed as an outcast, begrudgingly Adam chased after Sarah as fast as he could. The adrenaline soon kicked in and Adam picked up the pace, his speed was impressive, Adam managed to catch up with Sarah and gently patted her back "IT!" he screamed loudly. Sarah was visibly disappointed that she'd been caught. "Aw dangit, you've ruined my winning streak!" Sarah said sternly. Adam just stood there, still in mild shock at what has happened to him - being placed in Kid Zone.
"I know! Let's play hide & seek instead!" Sarah said, the other children cheering at the idea. "Yeah! And we can see what the new kid is made of!" another child exclaimed. Adam nodded awkwardly in agreement, although he could feel his bladder getting full to the point of painful discomfort. Adam desperately looked around for a staff member to take him to the toilet, however the only staff member on duty in the courtyard - Amy - was busy helping the other children on the climbing apparatus.
"I'll be the seeker!" Sarah loudly confirmed and began counting down from 20. Adam snapped his attention back to the situation, not wanting to disappoint the group. Adam ran as fast his legs would take him to find a hiding spot. Adam eventually found the perfect spot, a small bushy area within the playground that concealed his position well. 'There's no way they'll find me here!' Adam thought to himself, hiding in the woodland area.
Several minutes passed by and Adam was sweating whilst hiding in his spot under the July sun. 'What the hell are they waiting for?' Adam thought to himself, a pool of liquid forming under his sneakers. The heat was intense and Adam assumed he was sweating to such a degree that'd he'd have to concede defeat and move, he could handle the heat no longer. Adam got up from his crouched position within the small woodland area within the playground and fanned his face with his hand. Adam eventually walked out onto the spongy protective rubber flooring within the playground, Sarah and the other children were gathered around Amy - the staff member - who was handing out ice lollies.
As Amy handed out the last lolly, she looked over at Adam and walked over to him. "Aw, hey kiddo! It looks like you've had an accident?" she said, paying no attention to how loudly she was speaking to Adam. Amy had a rucksack over her shoulder, Adam was confused. "Wha- no, it was super hot! I'm sweating!" Adam protested, trying desperately to avoid embarrassment. The liquid trail that followed Adam from the woodland area and onto the protective rubber tarmac exposed Adam's words as untrue. "Hey champ, don't you worry! Plenty of the younger kids have accidents all the time!" the clearly visible wet patch in Adam's shorts exposed him further. Adam had wet himself, without even noticing it. Adam's shorts were soaking wet.
Amy kneeled down next to Adam and placed the rucksack on the floor. Amy pulled out a white diaper from the the rucksack, almost as if waving it as a damn flag for the whole playground to see. "Come on buddy, let's get you into a fresh diaper and then it's time for some lunch!" Amy said, tightly but gently gripping Adam by the wrist to guide him indoors. Amy, like the rest of the staff at Kid Zone, didn't know that Adam wasn't wearing a diaper as today was 'no diaper day'. "Bb- But, I'm trying to stay out of diapers! I haven't wet myself!" Adam continued to protest, his face turning red. "Sweety, your shorts are soaking wet and smelly. We'll get you cleaned up in no time and you can get back to playing with the others." Amy said, marching Adam indoors.
Adam looked behind him as he was being guided by Amy. Sarah and the other children were pointing and laughing at him, sniggering and whispering to each other.
The pair eventually made their way to a small room. The room was decorated with babyish and 'toddler-like' imagery, bears and balloons on the wallpaper, the room smelled 'clinical' and was dominated by a padded changing table in the middle. "Here, let me help you up onto the table." Amy said as she gently lifted Adam by his hips onto the table. Adam could see some other, much younger children in the room with another staff member.
"Let's get these shorts off." Amy said cheerfully. "Oh. Did mum and dad forget to put a diaper on this morning?" Amy said in a surprised tone, noticing Adam wasn't wearing any protection. Adam was mortified and couldn't even speak, his face red as a strawberry. Amy remembered that Jenny mentioned that Adam still has accidents, still holding the diaper she removed from the rucksack earlier, "Okey-dokey! I'm gonna pop this diaper on now, is that ok?" Amy asked in her usual cheerful tone. Adam nodded solemnly, his face still burning red from embarrassment. Amy expertly and quickly lifted Adam's legs as he lay on the padded table, gently wiped him down and applied the diaper.
"All done!" Amy exclaimed rather loudly, even the younger children in the room heard her and looked over at an already embarrassed Adam.
"Hm. Looks like mum and dad forgot to pack you a change of clothes. Darn." Amy said as she rummaged through Adam's backpack. "Well kiddo, you can't wear your shorts because they're wet. You're gonna have to wear something from our lost property store. Don't worry, we wash all the clothes left behind by other parents!" Amy then rummaged through a clear box full of kid clothes left behind. She eventually pulled out the only pair of shorts she could find, they were clearly intended for younger children since they had dinosaurs printed on them. "These should fit sweety, they will have to do for now." Amy said as she pulled the shorts over Adam's diaper.
Adam eventually sat up on the changing table, now acutely aware he was wearing a diaper. Adam's fears had come true, all was unfolding as he had imagined. This was hell.
Could this day get any worse?
"Right, the other kids should be having lunch in the atrium. Let's go and join them." Amy said, helping Adam off the changing table.
