Content: We just returned to our hotel in Kilkee from a stroll along the beach. My wife sat down to drink tea and looking at her photos from our vacation. Suddenly she stood up and said: I peed!

You know, my wife has several disabilities. She has cerebral palsy, but is able to walk on broad, flat paths. If the ground is uneven she needs help. She is also visually impaired, and survived a life-threatening illness. Treatment was successful but it took a heavy toll on her body. She will need medication for life. They make her drowsy, so she takes them just before sleeping. Additionally she needs to drink a lot. She decided to wear nappies the night because it was a struggle to get up to pee, and after that she often could not sleep anymore. She is not really incontinent. Her nappies are almost always wet the morning.

Once last year she almost peed herself because we couldn't find a toilet and she is not so good in walking. I asked her whether she would wear nappies if we are out, and she nodded. Then she got her period and forgot her pads. She just used her nappies. Suddenly she had nappies on the whole time for a few days. She realized she finds it relaxing not to think about peeing anymore.

I am a diaper lover and on Tumblr I found some quite crazy stories on about how to unlearn potty training. I am not so sure about this. Is it possible to unlearn potty training at all? To be sure I warned her that she might get lazy.

One day at home when she was not wearing protection, she was standing in front of the mirror combing her hairs. Suddenly she peed. She said she thought she was wearing a nappy. She was furious at herself. She couldn't stop the peeing and even her socks got wet and a puddle in front of the mirror had to mopped up.

In our ongoing vacation in Ireland she is wearing nappies often because she prefers to wear nappies when traveling. When we were flying, she put on a nappy on her after security. She peed twice during the flight. She said she was happy not having to toddle along the aisle to the plane toilet. She was drinking a lot of tea as usual. In the hotel I then changed her for the night.

Today however she wanted a break from nappies after a week of constantly having them. And today look what happened, a wet spot in the seat! Should we tell the hotel about the peed-in armchair? I tried to dry it with a towel as good as we could.

I don't know that it matters at this point but if you was the next person to set in the chair you would want it to be dry. Then besides that the longer it sets the more that pee will take on a strong ammonia smell. I personally think you should tell them and I think they will be more than understanding. You should of told them when it happened to they could send someone to clean and disinfect while it was still wet. It is part of life and no matter the reason why she might be having a hard time holding it now the fact remains that she is having a hard time but it is something millions of people live with daily and I assure you she most likely was not the first person to pee on their furniture. I am super mindful to take bed pads with me and even use boosters when staying in a hotel. In my younger days I had left a few times with a wet bed or seat left in the room behind me but it is nothing I would do now.. Just like if You had me over at your house and I leaked on your you furniture or mattress. I would tell you.

Thank you! My wife feels ashamed about having peed the armchair. We are still in the hotel and will leave today. We will tell them. The armchair doesn't have a big spot and it only barely smells (because of good hydration and because she stood up quickly, the trousers got wet thoroughly but not the armchair, and the floor is made of wood). But you are right, people after us have the right not to sit in dried pee.

One time I was sitting on a concrete bench in front a motel we was at . I didn't know it at the time, but I did leave two half circles from me leaking a little on it . I did get a rag from the front desk to clean it off .

And what did you feel?

Tell her she has nothing to be ashamed of at all and don't think twice about it. I am sure much worse things have happened in those rooms. Bladder leakage is a common thing I bet they will respect you for telling them. I would. I hope you guys had fun on your vaccation.

Yes it is still a fun vacation. Lot of little mishaps like the peed-in armchair. Today we went to a vacation home and our manager suddenly told us that we drove to the wrong location, the correct one would be Kilkee. But we just left Kilkee! It was a clerical mistake by the manager but she was very helpful and we got a vacation home. Just one of many little things. Another mishap was a water pipe which fell of and sprayed the back yard of our vacation cottage. I could fix it myself (shrugs). The cottage itself was not leak-proof, it seems.

Ah, I forgot, the reaction was raised eyebrows then a shrug: "I'll make sure to tell the cleanig staff, don't worry."

Content: Now we have slept on it. I just said to my wife, adisc.org helped us to decide about this embarassing situation.

Additionally, my wife said, no one is any the wiser about that she wears nappies under her trousers in public.

If I went to sit down in a hotel and realized someone had pee'd on a chair, I would certainly tell the hotel staff. If by chance I had an accident myself and wet a hotel chair, or bed, or anything - I would go and apologize, and admit that I'd had an accident so that it could be cleaned up before anyone else came along. I think it's only fair to the hotel, and to other people, to do that.

We did tell them.

Good for you

Why good for us? It was good for the hotel and the people who will sit in that armchair next.
